Eight Days: The Lost Development Footage

by Patrick Steen on September 19, 2008 at 5:05 pm

Remember Eight Days?  Sony London’s cover shooter that was making waves in 2005?  Come early 2008 we believed the game was entering full production. Come mid-2008, the game was cancelled and later replaced with…EyePet. Now all that’s left of Eight Days is the lost development footage found floating on youtube.

The game’s supposed Animation Director has uploaded a test level demonstrating the game character’s basic navigation.  The animation system is clearly impressive, being fluid yet responsive and even displaying similarities to Naughty Dog’s Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune. Sadly, this developer was none too pleased with the game’s cancellation:

The London studio decided to shift its focus from ‘hard core’ games to ‘lifestyle’ games and [...] Eight Days did not fit into the budget for the next financial year.

To be honest, it would have been easier to accept it’s cancellation if the game wasn’t very good.

Sigh.
