Fallout 3 DC Metro Ads Causing Shock and Awe

Game advertisements, from the Halo 3 commercials last year to the Gears of War “Mad World” ad the year before, have gotten pretty damn impressive in recent times - and the trend’s continuing heading into this fall’s blockbuster season. Take this Fallout 3 ad, for example, snapped in a DC metro station by Ripten reader John Cangany.
It’s a pretty powerful image (and maybe a potentially controversial one) - the battered and broken Washington monument looming behind some twisted version of the American flag, and that robot guy that’s in all the Fallout media (sorry Fallout fans I don’t know what he’s called).
According to John’s account, plenty of people, most presumably unaware of the context of the game’s setting, found the ad totally compelling:
Anyway, metro riders were transfixed by this ad…people STARED. Like, legit stared, as if the ad were either a really pretty or really ugly, disfigured lady.
Nice way of putting it. In other words: good advertising.
