LittleBigComputer: Brilliant or Insane?

At this rate we might as well make the “hey look at this crazy-ass thing some dude made in LittleBigPlanet” post a daily feature. For a game that’s only in beta and that claims to have but a fraction of its working parts in place, you sure can do a hell of a lot with it - though I wonder if you could ever top this.
PSN user Upsilandre has constructed a working calculator in LBP, with 610 magnetic switches, 500 wires, 430 pistons, 70 emitters, and “other stuff”. It’s all other stuff to me, completely mind-boggling. Hit the jump to see it in action.

Don’t get me wrong, this guy is either insane, genius or both but.. how long did this take to make? For something I have in on my OS’s toolbar?
I still don’t get the appeal of this game.

Probably a few hours. Everybody is experimenting David and seeing exactly what the tools are capable of.
The appeal? Ability to create whatever you like, interact with other players in co-op and share your creations, then play an endless stream of levels.
