Gears of War 2’s Credits Have a Secret

by Keane Ng on October 22, 2008 at 10:49 pm

SERIOUS SPOILER ALERT. If you’re super-sensitive about Gears of War 2 spoilers, do not click the jump. You’ll feel horrible about what you’ve done afterward. Trust me.

If you’re curious about what lies next for the Gears saga, and have maybe snuck a peek at the leaked footage of the Gears 2 ending, well, then come on in. Don’t say we didn’t warn you though.

You know how after every Metal Gear Solid game, the credits roll and then the logo pops up, and there’s a little conversation after that, usually with Ocelot? Well Cliffy’s stealing one from Hideo’s book.

After the Gears of War 2 credits roll, the logo hits the screen. Suddenly a voice message starts playing. It’s static-y as hell, and the person on the other side of the line sounds like he’s in some serious shit.

This is Adam Fenix. Is anyone out there? Can you hear me? This is Adam Fenix. Can you hear me? What have you done?

Adam Fenix was Marcus Fenix’ pa, and he was a military scientist who discovered a complete mapping of the underground Locust tunnels where the “bad guys” of the Gears universe have been shacking up. What does he mean by “what have you done”? Well, that’s the mystery, isn’t it?

“what have you done”? Well, that’s the mystery, isn’t it?

I believe there r two possibilities.
    1. He is trying to contact humans and cannot reach anyone so he starts talking to the locast queen asking what she has done to the humans.
2.Curious he tries to contact the humans and wonder what had happened.

I dont understand much more but i think he might be with the locast this would be alot clearer mabey if they released a game called pendulem wars which is the early fights with the locast.

He’s wondering what humanity did to the locust, the locust were there to save humanity, adam had found a way to create peace betwen the two races, and humans crashed everything.

because was thanks to the locust that human would prevail.

    now they will be destroyed….

im thinking, wat if his dad was working WITH the locust (wich would explain the level with all the super security) but i dont think the locust are the bad guys, they might have something to offer humans, wich is wat the queen is talking about at the end.

Pendulum Wars were the battles fought between humans before the Locust emerged. The humans fought each other over Imulsion.

Obviously he is wondering why the humans have sunk jacinto, and he knows it was what the locust wanted the humans to do, being that it was humanity’s last defense.

mabey that plan he had on the computer was rly old and sometime after he made it he had relized there was one flaw to it. Kinda like what Tom said.

its pretty obvious what he means. It was adam fenix’s original idea to sink jacinto in order to wipe out the horde because there was a massive amount of tunnels under jacinto. so when he actually sees jacinto sunken, from underground. he tries to conact the cogs pleading to them what a terrible mistake they had just made. Hense: “what have you done?”.

I noticed a lot of MGS rip-offs in Gears 2. Not so much rip-offs most of the time, but having played the MGS games so much it’s pretty easy for me to notice stylistic nods. The credits thing is just a shallow knock off of it though.. it doesn’t seem to add much depth to what happened in the game other than “hey look.. this is gonna end up being more complicated than it seems.” With MGS1-3 the phone calls completely changed your entire perspective on who’s on who’s side. Not really with 4, but 4 also had a cutscene after the first bit of credits so that made up for it hugely.

Anyway, Gears 2 was a massive disappointment for me, and didn’t really add any context to anything in relation to the first game. They just threw these moments in and were like “here, be sad” and figured out how to stretch things out for a 3rd game. The plot needs some serious work, it’s bad when you get awkward laughs at moments that are supposed to be dramatic. Kind of like that new Tom Cruise movie.

    @joseph,

yeah, i agree, that’s probably what marcus’ father is referring to.

But really, who thought sinking jacinto was a good idea in the first place? seriously, did any gamer out there buy it?

Especially after you hear about how it’s the last bastion of hope for humanity in the beginning of the game. Then you’re tasked with sinking it? i was not on board that train.

what he mean bye saying “what have you done” its becouse the COG sunk jacinto and basiculy whiped out most of the locus. what i think is that the glowing lucus that wear fighting the normal lucus was a creation of adom fenix to help whip out the lucust army but when the COG sunk jacinto killing most of the glowing locust. clues are all over this game. thairs a lot of secrets that are being told if you just pay attantion when your plaing. like for example the heavilly guarded building with that anying guy talking all the time, first of all why was that building so heavily guarded and second of all what wher thay doing to those monster looking things, what wher thay supost to become if thay haddin bine wokin up so early? Secrets are all over this game and the answers will be salvd in gears 3…

What i think is that, adam fénix (marcus dad) wasnt creating the lambent. He was trying to make peace or something… that will explain why the queen told marcus “its a shame you didnt follow his path” she dosnt mean he is dead…the voice at the end proves that…and with the “humans from the future”(creepy as mutants in the old cog facility)…it probably ment that humans created locust or some wierd shit..the queen looks human..and hot in a wierd way..all this still leaves us to keep guessing til gow3!!!!!!!!

What if marcus`s dad was bad . There are clues like when you hear him on the computer saying if you sink jacinto your last hope is gone that could be for both sides the hollow would be flooded and when the queen sais you should have followd in your fathers footsteps. hint hint
