Resistance 2 Latest Victim in Metacritic Douchey User Flames
by Dan Landis on October 25, 2008 at 2:56 am
When will it end? Shortly after we talked to Metacritic founder Marc Doyle about LittleBigPlanet’s low user score, the wrath of Sony fanboys was unleashed upon Gears of War 2’s user score as a revenge hit. It now appears that the 360 fanboys just wouldn’t stand for that, even though they seem to have started this in the first place, and have retaliated by butchering Resistance 2.
I really don’t understand the point of all of this. It seems that the whole idea of abusing user ratings really took off when people slammed that dumb bitch who misrepresented Mass Effect on Fox News, busting the rating of her book on Amazon down to under one star. These fanboys misusing Metacritic, however, don’t seem to understand that while Metacritic offers them the ability to voice their opinions, the reality is that the user reviews don’t really matter.
This is very much the opposite of Amazon’s system where the user reviews are the only reviews on the site. Low user ratings on Amazon make much more of a negative impact on buying decisions than low user ratings on Metacritic simply because Metacritic features the Metascore, aggregating reviews from actual industry professionals.
If you look at this logically, which I’m sure is beyond the abilities of the common fanboy mentality, you will see that trying to wreck a game through the Metacritic user score is not going to work. The average user is smart enough to know that these scores are bullshit. While Metacritic itself is an excellent source for consumers to get the general consensus about a game, the user scores are no different than user scores anywhere else on the net, which unfortunately means they are susceptible to this kind of pettiness.
I know you fanboys may feel some sense of accomplishment or that you are helping your side win the console war, but you’re wrong. You are only hurting yourselves and your peers, and you make the existence of the user review mean less than it should. You are the belligerent, fist-fighting hockey dads of the gaming community, and quite frankly, you should be ashamed of yourselves. Please, just stop.

Yes please stop. It’s ridiculous . When did gaming become a battle field?
on October 25, 2008 3:16 am
Honestly, I remember having some pretty heated Nintendo vs. Sega debates back in elementary school, but it never seemed this bad. I think the combination of videogaming becoming a part of pop culture and the anonymous voice the Internet gives everyone — that is what has turned this into the battlefield it is today. People aren’t as free to insult people in real life as they are on the Internet, and the people that are the harshest online are generally the people that aren’t able act that way in the real world without getting their asses kicked.
on October 25, 2008 3:24 am
Yeah definitely. A perfect example is youtube comments. People just like to act all big in bad but in reality they’re chickensh*t. I mean I know people had their console debates back in the day, but today’s is just stupid. Seriously everyday I go into work (game place) it’s the same sh*t over and over again “Oh the 360 owns PS3″ or some mess like that. It’s like ok I get it. It’s like a stupid reason to argue over gaming consoles when it’s supposed to be about entertainment. At least that’s what I think.

This is fairly ridiculous.

This has got to be the stupidest thing that I have seen in quite a while. why would anybody waste their time even doing this. like some arbitrary rating that obviously has no grounds in reality is going to influence me with my game purchase.
I wonder how long the fanboys that are gonna’ continue this useless circle-jerk….

I like the tag “why must you douchebags be so douchey?”
on October 25, 2008 3:27 pm
haha this is awesome….who even cares?
on October 25, 2008 5:20 pm
What was the point of this article? Pointless. Not to mention you and your brother(?) John are two of the biggest 360 fanboys Ive ever seen(no pun intended).
on October 25, 2008 5:42 pm
I would put it down to to many virgins. Go get a life or at least … you get the point.
on October 25, 2008 5:45 pm
pps if someone tried to be so arrogant, it just proves that they really arn’t that smart and it does really damage the image of their beloved console.

smallballsbarry (see what I did there?),
I’m not sure how you missed the point of the article, so that’s unfortunate. I’m also not sure how my brother(?) and I are the biggest 360 fanboys you’ve ever seen (no pun intended) considering you’ve never seen us, but we are literally pretty big, so I’ll give you that. I would say, however, that my ability to point at the stupid things that 360 fanboys are doing and call them douchebags single-handedly disqualifies me for biggest 360 fanboy status. I appreciate the nomination, though.
Keep on proving my point, dude; you are only making yourself look bad.

God, fanboys on both sides of the fence are ruining gaming boards. You cannot even ask for help nowadays without being bashed about what system your asking for help with. Or having a real conversation about games, it inevitably turns into a console war. I consider myself a gaming fanboy, a fanboy of games, not a particular system. I own a 360 and PS3.

Don’t bring logic into a fanboy flame war!
It’s like moving a brick wall brick by brick with your forhead. you’re only going to wind up with a headache and the wall won’t have moved an inch.

I don’t think the online gaming scene has too many intelligent people…. I mean seriously, they’re two different consoles, they’re both good in their own separate ways, so GET THE F*** OVER IT!! Stuff like this “metacritic” garbage is just childish and deserves to be ignored completely IMO.
on October 25, 2008 8:12 pm
This is getting ridiculous. 360 started it,PS3 did it back. People are idiots.
This was hilarious at first but now its just stupid
on October 25, 2008 8:14 pm
I was pissed at first when they did it to LBP (right, I forget what game)…Then I though it was right for us to get even….Now I just find this hilarious
on October 25, 2008 8:15 pm
Yes, I found a small bit of humor in it the first time because I thought, “Wow, these fanboys are so determined.” Now as it continues to go back and forth, I find it to be just plain sad. You don’t even want to know what’s happening to Alan Wake right now…
on October 25, 2008 9:19 pm
there we go,things got weird.
Welcome to the ultimate form of console wars.
on October 26, 2008 1:48 am
Man, thank God i’m just a normal gamer who don’t care about this crap on war of the consoles.
It’s ridiculous now. These hardened fanboys don’t seem to realize that while they stick to there consoles, they are missing out on some of the greatest games ever on all platforms. Though price huh?
It’s a great time to be a gamer!
on October 26, 2008 10:57 am
You know what’s funny? Most of these 360 fanboys probably owned the PS1 at some point. That’s what makes their stupid comments/ratings so funny.
on October 26, 2008 11:37 am
People are lame.I’m a fanboy and I would never do this.I’m not 10 years old.
