Riccitiello: “There will be a Mercenaries 3 and … a Mercenaries 10.”
by Ian Stanfield on November 1, 2008 at 10:57 am

Pandemic’s sandbox destruction plaything Mercenaries 2 is apparently getting an additional installment (and then some), according to John Riccitiello. The announcement reared its expected head during a post-earnings conference call, in which Riccitiello said:
There will be a Mercenaries 3 and, if I have anything to do with it, there will be a Mercenaries 10.
A bold statement for an otherwise completely unsurprising business strategy, as EA had announced sequels for Dead Space, Battlefield: Bad Company, and Army of Two only four days earlier.
Mercenaries 2 performed adequately on the charts, achieving a 72.6% on GameRankings. Regardless, it was a veritable cash-cow for EA, raking in 1.9 million, nearly as much as the highly regarded Spore. No other details were given, but we’ll be sure to update you as soon as they hit.

Fix the achievement glitch on the 360 version first, assholes >_<

Well they said they were making 3 and 10, maybe we can just hope there won’t be any others in between?
Sequels are single-handedly taking creativity out of modern video games.

You’re retarded. How about we also never make any more rock ‘n roll because I’ve heard guitar so many times. Bands shouldn’t keep making similar songs, they should have every single song they do be completely different than the last.
Hey, Metal Gear Solid was awesome, but let’s not make 2, 3, and 4 because we already made a Metal Gear game. You see where I’m going here? This is the kind of idiocy that you are spewing.

Mercs was so bad it gave me a rash. As for Seasoned Salt’s jibe, I’d argue that bad rock just needs to effing stop – just like bad games.
I don’t mind a sequal just as long as it’s quality.

I don’t think they intend to make shitty games, so saying “it’s okay to make a sequel as long as it’s quality” is kinda pointless. I think all games strive for quality, or at least I would hope so.
