Preview: Bomberman Ultra

You want to know something random? You can hook up seven controllers to a PS3. Seven is a lucky number, but it seems like sort of a random one to be the local simultaneous multiplayer limit. In any case, Bomberman Ultra will take full advantage.
This Bomberman will be pretty much the Bomberman that Xbox players experienced last year, only with all the expansion packs included off the bat (hence, the “Ultra”). That means 14 levels and tons of characters to mix ‘n match custom bombermen. Gameplay is all the same—down to the Revenge carts that let you bomb characters from the periphery of the board once you die—with fully customizable rule sets (which power ups are on, whether the stage gimmick is in play).
All the achievements will carry over to the PSN version as Trophies, and the game will also take advantage of voice chat and the EyeToy for the eight player online matches. Hudson is hoping to release Bomberman Ultra sometime in January, and although a final price point hasn’t been decided yet, it will cost less than purchasing the XBLA version plus expansions.
