the-last-remnant-gets-near-perfect-score-from-famitsu-heads-are-scratched

The Last Remnant, a game previously doomed to the bargain bin before it was even released, has received a near perfect score from prestigious Japanese gaming mag Weekly Famitsu. The game got a 10/10/9/9 and a shiny Platinum Award. One review remarked:

Players might be confused at first because you’re unable to select specific commands in battle, but once you learn how to form a Union and play around with the options of Formations and their arrangements, the game gets really fun.

What the hell? Since when is this game supposed to be near perfect? I’ll admit to judging this game without even playing it – I mean, come on, it sounded kinda interesting but overall it never looked like you know, Platinum Award material. Even Amazon thought so – they were pricing the game at a $20 discount before it even came out. Now just today, it’s back to $56.99. Guess they read Famitsu too.

It’s probably better then Infinite Undiscovery, seriously. Or maybe SE is starting to suck more.

*goes on to play ATLUS RPGs*

Son of a… I saw that 20 bucks off on Amazon and considered buying it, but now that mother bitch is back to full price again. Goddamn hesitation foils me again!

So much for good things coming to those who wait. I guess the early bird really does get the twenty dollars off worm. A game in hand is worth two in the store. Uhhh… I’m out of old folksy wisdom.

If you played Yggdra Union then you knew the potential for a 3D version of something like that. I didn’t even hesitate when it went for 39.99. Plus it Square, come on people have you lost your confidence in them already. I’ll admit the 39.99 price tag did make me question for a second, but I though hey if it really sucks I’ll play it and trade it.

Honestly, Famitsu is pretty open about giving sub-par games perfect scores due to “fan demand”. I read an article explaining it once, and I want to say Famitsu’s response was basically “Well all of the Square-Enix nuts are going to go and buy it no matter what we say, and if we give a game that probably has a huge fan following a less-than-perfect score we’ll lose readers from among that fanbase.” At least they’re pretty transparent about it though, and Famitsu still rocks for early rumors and scans and whatnot.

While I think what art rumpf is say is somewhat true. I doubt they give it 10,10,9,9, they would have probably given it all 8s to calm the rabid fan base, which is what they gave Infinite Undiscovery. Looking at sites like gamerankings a few other sites gave that game an 8, but the average is 69 so going by that Last Remnant should be about an 8, But then again I agree with infinite Undiscovery getting an 8. I guess when you play it you’ll know for sure.

How can you bash a game and a review from a respectable magazine and have not even played the game? Epic Fail.

I think I was pretty upfront with my completely unfounded opinions and how unfounded they are.

How about this, I actually own the game and its excellent i tend to hate rpg’s but this sucked me in, the fights are very intense, and the amount of customization is staggering as far as Unions (party system) and how they can effect the outcome of the battle drastically. And usually a game that gets a good review should warrant your attention, hence how I save money, see a cool looking game, watch in game videos, then read multiple reviews. I mean Katamari didn’t look like a good game first glance and waddya know it turned out great.

The game disc gets scratched after 10 minutes of gameplay. None of my other games get scratched from my Xbox, but I've bought two copies of this game and both of them are scratched and unplayable. Any suggestions?
