Uncharted 2 Teaser Trailer is Real-Time
by Dylan Duarte on December 3, 2008 at 4:19 am

As you’re probably aware, the sequel to Naughty Dog’s Phenomenal adventure title Uncharted was announced just the other day. The teaser trailer for Uncharted 2: Among Thieves sported amazing visuals, but as with as most teasers, the question was asked: was it real-time?
Yes. Yes it was.
In an interview with Gamezine, Naughty Dog’s Lead Character Artist Richard Diamant said:
“Yes, the trailer was all rendered real-time in our engine.”
Now that you’ve realized just how incredible this game looks, take another look at the trailer. Look at that sweet, sweet snow action! Seriously, this game just shot to the top of my most anticipated list.

Em, the link to Gamezine is a story that links to your own sites interview with Naughty Dog from January where they are talking about Uncharted 1.
Thought you should know. No really, you really should.

Shrui: Gamezine is merely referencing the interview for extra context in an update.
It’s good that they are linking to us. Us being me. And they being me.

Mr.[DavidGX] If you read this, let me kindly brief you(or put you to sleep)about some Strengths and Mehs of Uncharted, since you said you didn’t played it! O_0
(I answer you here, cause you alluded to not be impressed about the teaser being realtime, which is fine by me)
The strengths:
-It has one of the best HDR’s of this generation,Ilumination is powerful, natural and water reflection is Superb, but you have to see it for yourself.I can honestly understand how you weren’t impressed by the video, but let me tell you something that other people might agree with:Videos didn’t make justice neither for the original Uncharted.
Believe me.In a well calibrated set,is amazing.
-It has one of the best animation routines this generation, with a massive number of motion capture layers that alternate dynamically for an amazingly realistic response to cover situations, combat, feet colision, etc.Drake is not Chris Redfield in RE1,he has not a stick up his ass that gives him that awkward rotation in a simple axis.
-It has High production values for voice actors, face Mo-cap,and SOUNDTRACK.I know is a horrid and cliched expression but…It’s like a movie,a very good and long movie!
-Its replayability value is very high, with lot of medals to get under most varied conditions, and lot of prizes for almost every few of them you get.And when I mean prizes I mean great skins, weapons, graphic filters, lotta of HD videos about Naughty Dog,slo-mo,speed-up,mirror play, etc, etc,I really don’t want to spoil everything—Besides, controls are sweet and AI,challenging.
The Mehs:
-It is short, not particularly short but some chapters fell compressed against others. Then again,it’s not “Heavenly sword” short,is…uh Uncharted short, which means that the real problem is you crave for more.(at least me)
-Some of the combat situations seem/feel a little wee bit too scripted;you reach a point/cross an invisible line and enemies will attack you.Seeing you or not.Other times, they will wait and don’t attack till they really see you.
-Exploration is limited, sometimes you will feel like walking in a closed gallery/tunnel,with jungle decoration. With a certain and sometimes very strong feel of linearity;in other words,It’s not “FarCry2 open”,you don’t get that in Uncharted…and is kind of a shame. Then again,it would be massively hard for the storytelling purposes of this game.
-Climbing mechanics are a bit simple, yet surprising the first times, but get a bit of an annoying neccesity sometimes.Drake never gets tired or spontaneously fails, with contributes to break the realism kinda.
-It has an annoying 1-5 seconds texture pop-in when maps load, sometimes, not very rare, not very often.
(Which is not my case anymore since I use a 2′5″ customized Solid State Drive with my PS3;which I highly recommend for improving ALL games and decreasing temp, noise and reliability)This particular problem is the result of dynamic caching to drive instead of installing.
Well, that’s Uncharted for me.Hope you get an Idea, now get to it! Try it man!
(PS:Truly sorry about the length of this,I’ll try this won’t happen again often)

Oh my,I intended to say a SSD Increases reliability(because of the lower temp and zero vibration),not the contrary, sorry.
on December 3, 2008 7:06 pm
Wow Abaddon, where did you get the SSD and how much price, how much memory?
on December 4, 2008 3:54 am
64Gb,a heavily tweaked Intel X25-E,it was (fortunately…) a gift from an engineer who wanted to use my PS3 as guinea pig.I accepted gladly as you can imagine, and the “experiment” was a success.
You can look at the price in the internet if you fancy too, sorry.
I can recommend you that,or Samsung.
Adtron I25FB-3 is fine I heard. If you want to become supersaiyajin,I would recommend Solidata X1 series.
Anyway keep an eye always on the Write Endurance, and half life of writing/reading.I’ve been explained that some PS3 do a constant caching that can eventually destroy an old/cheap SSD,like if it was installed on a server.
I recommend you to wait 2 years to buy one.Mostly for the price.

PS:”some PS3 GAMES do a constant caching I meant there. But the Point here is Uncharted, rats!,I don’t want to absorb this post any longer,I’m off to another! :D
