Kevin Pereira Calls Out Adam Sessler over Game of the Year Choice

by Dan Landis on December 10, 2008 at 9:51 pm

Kevin Pereira, co-host of G4’s Attack of the Show, apparently did not agree with the X-Play choice of Fable 2 as the Game of the Year, citing LittleBigPlanet, Fallout 3, and Left 4 Dead as better choices. At the end of this evening’s show, in fact, Pereira called out Adam Sessler specifically and demanded he defend his choice and said X-Play’s choice was “a terrible, terrible mistake”. Video follows.

While I don’t think it was that bad a choice, I personally would have picked Fallout 3 over Fable 2, but Sessler has a good point in that Fable 2 is much more accessible to a wider audience. And I think Kevin Pereira is kind of a tool, so I’m not quick to want to agree with him on anything. Let’s just see what happens when these two clash.

Meh, the title led me to believe it was a for real clash of opinions, not some scripted bullshit. Oh well, hate G4 anyways tooo scripted IMHO. Look at Adam Sessler for example, when he is scripted he is so annoying and meh, but some of his soapbox shows are awesome because he has true points and true opinions and he speaks those thoughts out with much, much less scripted control. Anywho, I certainly do disagree with Fable 2 being GOTY, it would not even hit the top 3 of my GOTY titles, hard to believe it was TRULY their title. :\

I’m sure it is, but that doesn’t change the fact that X-Play gave the Game of the Year to Fable 2. Don’t get me wrong — I think it’s a great game, but I believe there were better games this year overall.

I say all those are great games but fables does have longer lasting leg .

This is a bit off topic but I’m pretty sure GTA4 payed for good review scores. The reason I say this is because I think it is not going to get game of the year even though it is the best reviewed game in gaming history. In comparison, Zelda Ocarina of Time was universally praised but also was awarded game of the year but a lot of magazines and websites. But I didn’t like GTA4 as much as everyone else did so maybe it will get game of the year, however all my friends also thought GTA4 was kinda boring as well.

Attack of the Show is not half of what it used to be g4tv is not what it was. Where is the Screen Savers or call for help? I miss Mr Leo Laporte and the other guy Pirrillo they were nerds all right, but they knew what they were talking about i don’t like young people talking mostly about sex alcohol and trying to look unscripted it shows the wrong side of our youth.

Yeah, Fable 2 was a joke for Game of the Year.

Great game? Yes. It was. But not Game of the freaking Year.

    -Metal Gear Solid 4
    -Fallout 3
    -LittleBigPlanet
    -Smash Bros. Brawl
    -Gears of War 2

Those are some of the nominees I could think of. Personally Metal Gear Solid 4 is my Game of the Year easy. Followed by Fallout 3, LBP, and Gears 2 behind that.

And I know they are download games but World of Goo and Braid deserve mention too. World of Goo was one of the most flawless games I played this year. Why does only Halo-hyped, 50+ hour games win GotY all the time? These small titles sometimes are the best. Maybe not win GotY, but at least a nomination.

Left for Dead shouldn’t be a nominee.

Did you look at that poll they had on the side of the X-Play website for Game of the Year? They only had four choices-Gears 2, Fallout 3, Fable 2, and Left 4 Dead…

Come on…where the hell is MGS4.

The whole place is ran by 360 owners who probably don’t even own or know what a PS3 or Wii is. It only caters to the jocks who play shooting games all the time. It’s a joke.

My only question now is “Can the Spike VGA’s have even worse picks?”

I still don’t understand how Fable 2 got game of the year because they also said Fallout 3 got Rpg of the year. I thought you had to win your genre catagory to atleast win GOTY

Sessler’s right…Fallout 3 is GotY hands-down. Anyone who says GoW2 is GotY is out his or her mind.

Dan thinks that ‘Legendary’ deserves GOTY.
He also wears pants made entirely of pork sausage and applesauce.

No, no, no… I wear shorts made of stew meat and A1 marinade.

    Legendary, hahaha. Good one.

Olivia Munn as a nominee anyone? hahah GORRGEOUS. but yea.. couldnt agree more. fable was good but no where near game of the year… no where

None of these games deserve GOTY.

When I played Fable 2 I thought “Game of the Year” but then I played Fallout 3 & Gears 2. I just finished fallout 3 and love it. I do think Fable 2 is a contender but yeah to win it is a surprise but in saying that my girlfriend loves fable 2 & doesn’t want to play fallout at all. So Fable probably won on the broadness of its appeal

My game of the year is “Dead Space.” Fable 2 had a bit to many glitches to get game of the year. Gears of War 2 was the same thing as Gears of War 1. LittleBigPlanet maybe only because it’s for EVERYONE and not just adults or kids. Fallout 3 I haven’t played yet although I loved the first 2 Fallouts but my personal game of the year even though it may not get nominated is “Dead Space”.

I love Fable 2, I have played it over 6 times now. I am still going through it again. Sadly the glitches and bugs get in the way. No game this year deserves GOTY. I have played Gears of war 2 Fallout 3 and COD5:World at War, and Left4Dead. None them have the storyline that captures me into the moment of the game.

My GoTY is probaly a tie between Fallout 3 and Fable 2. It was the F2 storyline and FO3 scale which make’um for me.

I’m half way through Gears 2 but I doubt it will change my mind. Its a great game but I never can get into it.

Its been a good last couple of months for games too. Expensive though…

    I like Fable 2 alot but GoTY…I just don’t see how…
