November NPD: Wii Murdering the Competition
by Rangebar Merani on December 12, 2008 at 11:23 amNintendo sold 2.04 million Wiis to U.S. consumers last month, outselling its nearest competitor, the Xbox 360, more than two-to-one. And as for the PS3, well let’s just say it wasn’t the best month of sales for Sony.
While the Wii more than doubled the sales of Microsoft’s console, the Xbox 360 did the same to the PS3, selling 836,000 units compared to the PS3 only selling 378,000 units. I guess LittleBigPlanet, Resistance 2 nor SOCOM: Confrontation really helped the PS3 boost its sales.
Hit the jump for the full list of November NPD numbers.
- Wii – 2,040,000
- Nintendo DS – 1,570,000
- Xbox 360 – 836,000
- PSP – 421,000
- PlayStation 3 – 378,000
- PlayStation 2 – 206,000
Total hardware sales amounted to $2.91 billion for the month, up 10% from November of 2007. Of course, the increase in Wii sales alone made $270 million, so the video game industry might just want to thank Nintendo for its continuing growth.

With HOME being a steaming pile and none of the recent games helping much, I wonder if this means price drop for ps3?
