Call of Duty: World at War on the Wii a Dud

by Rangebar Merani on December 19, 2008 at 2:13 am

With over two million Wiis sold in the month of November, you would think almost any high profile game on the console would sell reasonably well, right? Well, doesn’t look that way for Activision’s Call of Duty: World at War.

According to the overall sales of Call of Duty: WaW, the Xbox 360 version took the number one spot having sold 1.41 million copies, the PlayStation 3 comes in second with a solid 600,000 units sold and the Wii, PS2, DS and PC have only a combined 200,000 copies sold. Not fresh at all.

My guess to why World at War has sold so poorly on the Wii is as good as anyone else’s. However, if most of you gamers are like me, you’ve got a Xbox 360 or PS3 sitting there right next to your Wii. And if you were even more like me, you’d take the graphical power and HD resolution over motion controls any day. Another reason would be the online experience of the 360, or even the PS3, over the crappy friend code bullshit that the Wii is still using. Looks like the hardcore gamers are staying hardcore and there’s nothing “Wii” can do about it.

How many Wii owners fill both of these criteria?:

-Want to buy a shooting game
    -Don’t have another console

    Very few, that’s how many.

What average Wii owner would buy this? This is not a “fun” party game…..or bowling.

It would at least be cheaper than buying a Time Crisis arcade machine.

~ Um, Woops. I do. The only thing keeping me from breaking my Wii is my PC – thats where I play my shooters.

OK, chalk one up on the list of 5 million Wii owners.

Wish I could. I’m starting to wish I had gotten an Xbox 360 or a PS3 – but I was young and stupid back then.

@FurtherIntel there are tons of fools on E-bay that would probably pay you more than what you did new for it. put it up and get a decent machine.

I am a regular wii owner, dont own any other systems, and I love world at war. Sure it is a shell of the other versions, but overall it is a great game for the wii, the best even! Sure the other versions have better graphics and modes, but the wii version is still as equally as good.

I have seen and played all versions of WAW and I can honestly say that while the Wii version lacks the graphical polish of the other versions it is a fine shooter nonetheless. The controls are the best of any console version and thankfully feature very little waggle. The IR aiming is precise and intuitive and while the online is not as robust it still provides a fast frenetic battle for shooter fans.
