Morbid Adventure Gaming Comes to the DS

by Dan Landis on March 12, 2009 at 9:23 pm

What’s this? An adventure game!? Yes, it’s true. Unfortunately for all the next-gen graphic whores out there, modern adventure gaming doesn’t seem to make it far past the Nintendo DS. Lux-Pain, however, seems to have a much more adult audience in mind than your average DS gamer.

Essentially, evil forces (called “Silent”) manifest themselves as worms that infest human hosts and force them to commit heinous and violent acts. The main character, Atsuki, lost his parents to the Silent and, obviously, decides he must avenge them.

Atsuki undergoes an operation that implants Lux-Pain (which I’m still not quite sure what that is) into his arm, which he then uses to find Silent Worms in people and destroy them (the worms, not the people). This involves investigating characters through dialogue, as well as conducting autopsies on people you failed to save.

Gameplay-wise, it seems as though you use your psychic powers to look inside people by using the stylus to brush the skin and tissue out of the way. Gross! I’m not sure how exactly you go about battling the Silent once you find it, but I’d guess it is equally disgusting… and therefore awesome. Lux-Pain is the kind of game the world needs more of.

Check out the trailer:

Lux-Pain has an expected U.S. release date of March 24th. First shipments of the game come with a free pack-in art book, so if you’re at all interested, you might want to hop on that. If someone nabs a copy of the game, we’ll be sure to let you know how it fares.
