Modern Warfare 2 Drops Call of Duty Moniker

When the teaser trailer for Modern Warfare 2 debuted earlier today, a lot of people took notice at the absence of the “Call of Duty” title, wondering if it was a mistake. As it turns out, it was completely intentional.
The newest entry in the Call of Duty franchise will be simply called Modern Warfare 2, completely dropping the actual “Call of Duty” from its name. I think this is a great idea. Not only would leaving it in lead to ridiculous names like Call of Duty 6: Modern Warfare 2, but I like to think that Infinity Ward broke the mold so much with the fourth entry, that they deserve their own unique title.
Who wants to bet that we’ll still hear the name “Call of Duty 6″ thrown around all the time?
