Preview: Military Madness

by Emily Balistrieri on April 7, 2009 at 8:08 pm

Way before Advance Wars, there was Military Madness for TurboGrafx-16, and now, here it is again, only for XBLA, PSN, and WiiWare. Hudson is doing a full 3-D remake of the original campaign, but also throwing in a brand new multiplayer mode.

Obviously a classic turn-based strategy game is going to play like one, so you’ll be hoofing your infantry around a hex grid map to take bases, or fulfilling kill all missions. Tanks and other vehicles play their roles in the color-coded faction war as well.

Four player local (including hot seat) or online multiplayer battles, though, that’s where the excitement is this time around. You can play free-for-all or on teams, with a turn or time limit set to however long a match you’d like to squeeze in. Plus, in multiplayer only, they’ve introduced a commander unit with special abilities — a bit of a modernizing touch.

Military Madness is expected to appear on at least one of the platforms by this summer, with the other two to follow shortly.
