Ashton Kutcher’s Twitter Race Yields Prizes For His Millionth Follower
by Demi Adejuyigbe on April 15, 2009 at 5:23 pmUsually, a story about Twitter would have no place on Ripten, but this time, it’s totally related. Ashton Kutcher’s Twitter just surpassed 900,000 followers, and coincidentally, so did CNN’s. In the spirit of competition, Kutcher issued a challenge to CNN, to see who would become the first Twitterer (Tweeter? Twitt?) to reach one million followers.
At first, Kutcher promised to ding-dong-ditch Ted Turner’s house if he reached the milion followers first, but then sweetened the deal by promising the millionth follower a copy of Guitar Hero, and 10,000 mosquito bed nets donated in their name to charity. That’s all fine and dandy- but then EA decided to run with it as well. EA promised the millionth follower a couple of perks as well- they would become a character in The Sims 3 and would be given a free copy of every single game EA makes in 2009. Yowza.
Of course, there are plenty of people just waiting to follow the guy when he reaches 999,999 followers, so if you want in on this ludicrous bounty, you might want to just sit by your computer for a couple of hours, hitting that F5 key like there’s no tomorrow.
