New Game Releases: 5/31 – 6/6

by Rangebar Merani on May 31, 2009 at 8:06 pm

I know we’re all excited for E3 09 this week and to see what new games are gonna be shown and announced, but there’s still a few games actually hitting stores this week.

The biggest title coming out has to be the long-awaited release of The Sims 3 for the PC. The Wii is taking the week off, but the DS picks up the slack for Nintendo with a handful of titles, while the 360 and PS3 each get FUEL and Red Faction: Guerrilla. Hit the jump to see the rest of the list and my pick of the week. Read more…

New Trailer for The Saboteur Features Shooting, Exploding, and Nazis

by Demi Adejuyigbe on May 31, 2009 at 4:37 pm

We don’t know much about The Saboteur right now, but EA’s WWII era shooter seems a bit more interesting with this new trailer. The video features the protagonist, as he makes his way to a rooftop, and gets poised to shoot some Nazis.

The end of the video also gives us a loose date of Fall/Winter of this year, which is good, because it means that we’ll definitely be seeing more of the game soon, probably at E3 this week. Until then, we can look forward to the game when it comes out later this year for the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.

thumbs-down-potential-criminal-florida-used-game-sellers-now-require-fingerprinting

A while back, I wrote an article about an individual I believed to be pawning a stolen console to a local GameStop. I was a little taken back by the obvious nature of the situation and the lack of hesitation by the GameStop employee who happily took it off her hands.

Never in my wildest dreams could I have predicted any type of police intervention in these daily occurrences, but in Florida, that’s exactly what the gun carrying law enforcers of the Sunshine State are doing. Read more…

BlizzCon 09 Tickets Sold Out, Scalpers Rejoice

by Chad Lakkis on May 30, 2009 at 2:01 pm

The last batch of BlizzCon 09 tickets have come and gone. If you want guaranteed access to the show now, you’re going to have to down some serious scalpers — BlizzCon tickets are phat loot, and they won’t come cheap.

The good news is, there will likely be a lottery/contest of sorts for you to try your luck at as well as the tried and true DirecTV televised version of the event.

segas-bayonetta-e3-trailer-reveals-captured-daughter-and-ass-kicking-gameplay

I’ve been a fan of this Platinum Games project since I first sketched it for you back at last year’s E3. Bayonetta features killer hair, big boobs swaddled in leather, fashion statement gun accessories, and now … a child abducting villain! Seriously, what’s an epic battle between two forces without a little hostage negotiation?

Sega’s E3 Trailer, sent to us last night as a 600+ meg file via email (too much work), is available for you after the jump courtesy of the video department over at GameTrailers. In addition to baby Bayonetta, you will find a good chunk of gameplay footage. Hit it. Read more…

Expert Difficulty DJ Hero Footage Looks… Kind Of Boring.

by Demi Adejuyigbe on May 30, 2009 at 11:15 am

When DJ Hero was first hinted at a year ago, I was kind of looking forward to it. I assumed it be a series of scratching to a bunch of hip-hop remixes, but I was completely wrong. Of course, you’ve already heard me complaing about the songs mixed for the game, but seeing as how we now have the first official footage of a song on the highest difficulty in the game, I feel like I can give a somewhat solid impression on the game.

It looks kind of boring.

Now, I say looks because I haven’t gotten any hands on time with the game yet, but as soon as I do, I plan to post more impressions here. But the fact of the matter is that the game looks like it moves very slowly. I’m sure this isn’t the case, since working the controller must be much more difficult than it looks here, but all I have is the 30 seconds of footage to go off of as of now.

The song above is “KRS-1’s Jack of Spades (DJ Shadow Mix) vs David Bowie’s Lets Dance” and the mix isn’t too bad.

Qore Accidentally Leaks the PSP Go [UPDATE]

by Demi Adejuyigbe on May 30, 2009 at 10:35 am

[Post updated with a better quality video of the June 2009 episode of Qore. The audio's off, but you can still get the gist of what's occuring.]

I’m sure that Sony won’t be too happy about this, but it seems that their video news service, Qore, has accidentally leaked the PSP Go only days before it was supposed to be shown at E3. Someone over at the Gaming Console Network managed to get their hands on the June episode of Qore, where Veronica Belmont and John Koller talk about the new handheld.

A couple of tidbits from the video – slide out controls, 16GB of internal memory & a memory card slot for more, no UMD, release in Fall 2009, and it won’t replace the current PSPs, they’ll be sold simultaneously. The video also announced LittleBigPlanet, Gran Turismo, and Metal Gear for the PSP Go, and said that we’d see GTPSP at E3, which is exciting for those of us that have been waiting upwards of 4 years for it.

Of course, many of us saw this coming, since we’ve been hearing rumors about the PSP Go for about a year now, name and all. Hit the jump for a gallery of 19 images of the PSP Go.

Leaked Assassin’s Creed 2 Footage… Doesn’t Show Much

by Demi Adejuyigbe on May 30, 2009 at 8:46 am

Courtesy of our friends over at Destructoid, we’ve got some brand new leaked footage of Assassin’s Creed 2, featuring the Altair we all know and… tolerate. Of course, the video’s only eleven seconds, but if you don’t care so much, I’m sure this will tide you over until the game actually releases. God only knows when that’ll happen, but I’m sure we’ll learn more at E3.

Square Enix loves their big honking blades and I love them for loving them. Anywho, press release junkies got wind of Square’s newly announced title Nier earlier today, and now you can get a glimpse at the game’s first trailer via their official website.

The trailer itself features more of that washed out dark ink splattery look that we saw a few months ago in the SF4 trailer. My interest is perked, but then again I am a Square whore so you may want to check the clip out yourself after the jump. Read more…

What good is a console exclusive feature if you can’t rub it in the face of your competitor a few days before a large game related social gathering?

Edios released a trailer of the PS3 exclusive Batman: Arkham Asylum playable Joker a few hours ago and if you haven’t seen it yet, I advise you give it a look. Best viewed through a pair of swirly vision glasses, but we won’t joy buzz you if you forgot them in your other purple jacket. Hit the jump. Read more…

Pac-Man Cereal Commercial with Christian Bale

That’s right! That’s John Connor himself dancing in joy over a marshmallow-filled Pac-Man cereal. It’s hard to see the resemblance with him being so young, but a visit to Internet Movie Database confirmed it. Batman loves his marshmallow.

Analysts predict WiiFit Plus, new Mario or Zelda, other things at E3

by Rangebar Merani on May 27, 2009 at 9:06 am

Industry respected analysts, Macquarie Research, have predicted that Nintendo will announce WiiFit Plus along with a new Mario or Zelda game for the Wii at next week’s E3.

After last year’s less than exciting E3 announcements of Wii Music and Wii Sports Resort, we can tell that Nintendo might have learned their lesson, so I can’t disagree with Macquarie and that we should see either a new Mario or Zelda (hopefully both!) announced for the Wii. Read more…

Big Boss appears in Famitsu and on countdown page

by Sam Naylor on May 27, 2009 at 2:47 am

This coutndown page has sparked a lot of new speculation about Kojima’s next Metal gear project. As you can see it recently showed an image of what appears to be Big Boss. Famitsu have also shown the image, along with one of what appears to be Raiden.

I say “appears to be” because there are plenty of hints in the text with Kojima (see it after the jump) that it it not Big Boss or Raiden at all. Also mentioned is that the game may cover all time periods over the Saga’s chronology, and that “Raiden” may be Grey Fox and “Big Boss” may be another clone. Speculation has hit overdrive once again. Thanks a lot, Kojima.

Bioshock 2 coming November 3 in US, October 30 in Europe

by Sam Naylor on May 26, 2009 at 3:43 pm

Take-Two have announced that Bioshock 2 will be released on November the third for Northern Americans, and on October the thirtieth for Europeans, on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. This of course means that the spoilers will hit the web a good four days before people from the US will be able to play the game. I suggest you stay away from the internet during those four days, especially if you don’t want to know that Atlas is f- actually, you can come to Ripten. We won’t spoil it. We promise.

First ‘Full’ Modern Warfare 2 Trailer

by Rangebar Merani on May 26, 2009 at 10:01 am

Finally, enough with the teasers already! The first complete trailer for Modern Warfare 2 debuted this past Sunday night during the Eastern Conference Finals between the Cavaliers and the Magic (the Magic won by the way, sorry Lebron fans).

Running at just a second over two minutes, the trailer gives us a better glimpse of what MW2 is about and also goes onto tell us a bit about the story and the rise of villain Makarov. Not that we all aren’t already excited about the game, but this trailer just gives us another reason to be. Check it out!
