Guitar Hero 5 Partial Setlist & Modes Announced

Another day, another Guitar Hero story, but this one is sure to have some of the franchise’s fans excited. USA Today announced some brand new features for Guitar Hero 5(Xbox 360, PS3, PS2, Wii) as well as a partial setlist featuring tracks by Tom Petty, White Stripes, Bob Dylan, Rolling Stones, Stevie Wonder, Johnny Cash, Santana, and Vampire Weekend. Now, regardless of how you feel about the franchise, you’ve got to admit- that is a fantastic setlist.

USA Today also announced the brand-new Fest mode that allows people to battle at home or online for scores. As always, 4 can compete at home, but with the inclusion of online battles, 8 players in total can compete online, for “momentum points”. Another mode they detailed was Party Play, which lets you join songs, switch instruments, or change the difficulty level-mid-game. Activision’s creative director says that GH5 will have a lot more variety, with more indie artists, classic rock, and heavy metal.

Call me a hypocrite if you want, but if the setlist continues to be this great, and the features keep rocking, this might be the first GH game I’ve picked up since Guitar Hero 2 back in ’06. Plus, Vampire Weekend! I’ve been asking for their songs since Rock Band came out, but I guess Activision beat Harmonix to the punch. Hit the jump for the partial setlist.

    That setlist sucks! Now activision is going all classical on us now. Guitar Hero III was my favorite but it still was nowhere in the same league as Rock Band 2 and all of its amazing downloadable songs. I still play RB2 atleast 3 hours a day, while my Gh's just gather dust or now sit on Gamestops "used games" shelf.

    The only thing i care is that songs get better and there is better online gaming. They need more hard songs, more metallica, slayer, lamb of god…. u kno, obiously more metal, after all it is called guitar hero, key word guitar, so they should focus on the guitar part of the game more.

    they used to focus more on guitar but then rock band came in to the equation. now it is a game that revolves around all the instruments. guitar hero would have a lot more trouble keeping up with rock band if they only focused on getting songs with good guitar. but…this set list really aint that great. there is a couple good songs in there but nothin special. however, this is only 9 songs. im sure the entire setlist will look much better.

    guys its a lost course. GH used to bring good music that people would always listen to, mainly to support the guitar. now all they care about is money so they are putting on songs that people only like for afew weeks, World Tour was them selling, that is why is is so much easier then III. Guitar hero metallica was good and i thought they had changed but to there old ways, but after seeing this set list and the plans for guitar hero greatest hits i have been lead to believe all they care about is money and not bringing a real game back to the fans that where there from the beginning

    R U nuts? I bought greatest hits yesterday and started playing. Each song became my favourite song to play, then I played the next and it became my favorite, then the next and so on. BTW I play drums, not guitar…

    so with a guitar the only thing your aloud to play is metal wtf dude seriously ypur dumbest person i know metal sucks the need more indie type stuff you know peopld who actually right music not people who have one hit song just to make money lame guitar hero sucks it needs stuff like bright eyes the national the decemberists the dodos radiohead all thoose good bands
