Review: Wii Sports Resort
by Rangebar Merani on July 31, 2009

The first time I saw and got my hands on Wii Sports Resort was at last year’s E3. I had a chance to actually play the Frisbee mini-game and it immediately put a smile on my face. I thought it was a great idea for Nintendo to come out with a sequel to Wii Sports, but damn, I didn’t think it would take them a year to get it to us. Well, after a long wait and in the middle of a summer video game drought, Wii Sports Resort has finally arrived and it sure was worth the wait.

Twitter and Facebook hitting the 360 before X-mas
by Rangebar Merani on July 30, 2009

Okay, we all know that the Twitter and Facebook integration into Xbox Live will not happen in the upcoming Dashboard update on August 11, but we do know that it will happen sometime soon.
Well, in a discussion with Eurogamer, Mircrosoft Marketing rep James Halton said that they are aiming for an “autumn” release and that the Twitter and Facebook integration will be separate applications instead of another huge dashboard update.
Halton addded, “It will be before Christmas. A lot of the background work’s been done for a lot of applications that are coming.”
There you have it Xbox Live peeps. You’ll be able to Tweet and update your Facebook status over your 360 in just a matter of months. But are we really that pumped up about this? I mean you can already do this on your computer and even your cell phone, in which both options seem like they would be easier to do. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 Mixtape and Video Premiere
by Rangebar Merani on July 30, 2009

Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 was finally released yesterday on Xbox Live and will be hitting the PS3 in just a few weeks. I know many of you are very excited about MvC2, so while you guys are enjoying the game and brawling with the likes of Spider-Man and Wolverine vs Ryu and Mega Man, take a look and listen at the upcoming Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 Mixtape coming out soon starring many well-known hip-hop rappers such as Talib Kweli, Raekwon and the Bay Area’s own, E-40.
Being a big fan of hip-hop/rap music, I was pleased to see a game publisher the likes of Capcom hook up and integrate the likes of one of their biggest games with a Mixtape featuring artists rapping about the game and it’s characters. Check out the first premiere video from the Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 Mixtape dubbed “SuperHeroes” featuring Planet Asia and DJ Toure after the break.

New Game Releases: 7/26 – 8/1
by Rangebar Merani on July 25, 2009

This week in new games may seem like a slow one with only a handful of releases, but with Wii Sports Resort with the Wii MotionPlus and The King of Fighters XII hitting stores, this is actually one of the better weeks we’ve had this summer. Oh, and not to mention Wii Sports Resort is bound to be one of this year’s best-selling games by selling a gazillion copies. Nintendo sure knows how to make that money. Hit the jump for the full list of new game releases and my pick of the week.

Castle Crashers coming to PS3
by Sam Naylor on July 23, 2009

Gamespot have managed to get a first look at Castle Crashers, the XBLA hit- on the PS3. Always good news when a well-received game becomes available to more people, and Castle Crashers is something I’ve wanted to play since I heard about it way back last year or so. The PSN version of the game will feature Trophy support, for those of you who care about that, but no further features have been announced.
Honestly, they could release the game on PS3 with no extra features and I’d be happy; I just want to be able to play the game. Castle Crashers PS3 will be playable at Comic-Con in San Diego this week, if you’re in that area.
New Left 4 Dead screenshots: The Spitter looks weird as hell
by Sam Naylor on July 23, 2009

What you see above is the new special infected, The Spitter. You are forgiven for looking away, as it’s one of the strangest things I’ve seen come out of Valve’s art studio. the gallery below shows some new features of the game off, including some new weapons, the new types of zombie, and generally just the bleak looking swamp level. I can;t wait to get my hands on this game, if only just to shoot the monstrosity that is The Spitter right in the face with a shotgun.

GTA4’s ‘Ballard of Gay Tony’ DLC coming October 29
by Sam Naylor on July 23, 2009

Kotaku reports that the next DLC for Grand Theft Auto IV, ‘The Ballard of Gay Tony”, will be releasing on October 29 this year. The DLC will be available for download, or it will come in a retail box entitled ‘Episodes from Liberty City’ which contains both sets of DLC. The download will set you back 1600 MS funbux, and the retail disc will cost you $39.99.
Before I go, here’s a silly blurb made up by the PR man: “players will struggle with the competing loyalties of family and friends, and with the uncertainty about who is real and who is fake in a world in which everyone has a price.”
LittleBigPlanet reaches 1 million community levels
by Sam Naylor on July 23, 2009
LittleBigPlanet recently reached one million online levels, and the developers have deservedly begun to celebrate. A million levels, of which 999,990 are trophy-farming levels. The million levels have been played 244 million times; obviously this means that there have been 244 million cases of frustration over the stupid physics and jumping mechanics, and likely about a billion uses of the “hit the other player” wave of the control stick.
Free Killing Floor DLC on the way
by Sam Naylor on July 21, 2009

Shacknews reports that Tripwire’s co-op survival horror game Killing Floor will be receiving a free update ’soon’, followed by some paid content after that. The free content includes a new level (foundry) and some new weapons, the Katana and the AK-47.
the paid content will include “four new playable characters including a Horzine foundry worker and a soldier in prototype Horzine body armor.” I don’t own Killing Floor, but as soon as it goes on sale, I’ll definitely give it a go. It looks like a more frantic and over the top version of Left 4 Dead’s Survival mode, which can only be good in my book.
World at War map packs sell over 4 million
by Rangebar Merani on July 21, 2009

With the third map pack just announced yesterday, Treyarch and Activision have let the numbers out on how the two previous World at War DLC map packs have sold.
According to Activision, the map packs have sold over 4 million copies over Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network. Wow, that’s a whole lot of cash money just on DLC maps. We can only guess that Map Pack 3 will boost these numbers and most likely sell a few million more copies.
Infinity Ward needs to learn from what Treyarch has done with World at War and make sure they offer plenty of DLC with Modern Warfare 2 because it’s sure to sell just as much, if not more.

New Left 4 Dead 2 details emerge from the swamp
by Sam Naylor on July 21, 2009

In this preview of Left 4 Dead 2, some brand new details about the game have been revealed, including some new infected types and more details about the Swamp level. First of all, the level-specific infected, known as ‘common-uncommons’, for the swamp have been revealed. We already knew about the ones with fire-proof suits on, but the swamp level has ‘mud men’, who run quickly on all fours through the swamp, making them difficult to spot.
A new special infected is the ‘Spitter’, who provides a more long-range option for the infected. He spits out an attack (unspecified at this point, probably gob) that damages those who stand in it. The attck isn#t fantastically powerful but can hinder a team who stay in the area of effect too long. Finally, the preview mentions adrenaline and ammo packs (which replace pills and first aid kits). The adrenaline packs allow you to run past zombies without them slowing you down, as well as removing restrictions on your melee attack. Sounds good to me, although removing health packs seems a little odd. I trust Valve, though. They know what they’re doing.
Reverse rhythm-based shooter Retro/Grade announced for PS3
by Sam Naylor on July 21, 2009
Retro/Grade isn’t your average shooter. Sure, it looks a little like it, but there’s a key element to this game that makes it stand out: you play the entire game in reverse. This means that in order to match the actions the pilot made to get to the end, you must use the rhythm to move and fire the ship correctly. All is explained in the above video.
An interesting thing to note about this game is that it can be played with a guitar controller, if you so wish. Certainly this is a game to keep your eyes on, and we’ll do our best to help you as we see more of this game.
New Trailer & Tracks From The Beatles: Rock Band
by Demi Adejuyigbe on July 20, 2009
September 9th is approaching quickly, and my rush to gather $250 for The Beatles: Rock Band is becoming a lot more difficult, but I’m starting to realize that it’s going to be worth the work.
Today, Harmonix added another trailer to the pre-order club site that is only accessible for people that pre-ordered the game, and the trailer reveals a bunch of new tracks from the Fab Four, including (but not limited to) Revolution, Paperback Writer, and Twist & Shout. But there are a lot more songs than the ones featured in the trailer being revealed soon.
Tomorrow, when all of the previews for the game go online, many new tracks will be revealed, and you can see the list of songs being revealed after the jump. Above is the trailer, so leave your thoughts on it in the comments!
More Call of Duty: World at War DLC coming soon
by Rangebar Merani on July 20, 2009

Yessir! Even with Infinity Ward’s Modern Warfare 2 coming out in a matter of months, looks like Treyarch isn’t giving up on World at War anytime soon. It seems like Map Pack 2 just came out yesterday and we’re already hearing that Map Pack 3 is in the works and is set to be released sometime in August (I’m sure with another double XP weekend!)
Map Pack 3 will feature three new multiplayer maps, “Battery”, “Revolution” and “Breach”. There will also be a new Nazi Zombies map called “Der Reise” which translates as The Journey, or The Voyage.
I’m pumped that Treyarch is still working hard at World at War DLC as it gives Call of Duty fans something new and fresh to play until November and the release of MW2.
