God of War I and II coming to PS3
by Sam Naylor on August 31, 2009 at 11:21 am
Good news, everyone! Well, at least to the people who haven’t yet played the God of War games on the PS2. Sony today announced that they will be releasing anti-aliased and 720p-resolution updated versions of both God of War I and God of War II. Also included is a set of trophies for those who care about their e-peen.
I’m going with this being a good thing, despite the fact that it’s milking a franchise, simply because I was told about how good these games are just after I put my PS2 away, and I am quite lazy. This saves me the trouble of not only getting out the PS2, but buying two discs to put in it. Laziness wins in the end.

Gaming Deals of the Week: Best Buy deal, buy one Xbox 360 game, get a second for half price
by Rangebar Merani on August 30, 2009 at 10:54 am
Check out this awesome deal I just discovered from the Best Buy website! You’ll get 50% off one Xbox 360 game when you buy another game of equal or lesser value. Even better, is that they’re offering free shipping or the option of in-store pick up. Probably one of the best deals I’ve seen all year on video games, this one shouldn’t be missed out. And the list of Xbox 360 games is pretty long, even including games that aren’t even out yet. I just pre-ordered Halo: ODST and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 both paid in full for around $90 (not including tax)! It’s a dope as deal that most definitely needs to be taken advantage of.

250 GB “Super Elite” Xbox 360 discovered in South African ad
by Rangebar Merani on August 29, 2009 at 8:34 am
With the recent $100 price cut to the 120 GB Xbox 360 Elite, it looks like Microsoft might have a more superior console taking its place. The above ad was discovered from a South African retailer, BT Games, showing a “Super Elite” Xbox 360 with a 250 GB hard drive and two wireless controllers. XboxGaming.co.za is reporting that they have spoken to Comztek, a South African Xbox distributor, and they have indeed confirmed that they will be getting the “Super Elite” Xbox 360 bundled with a copy of Forza 3 and two wireless controllers for R4,999 ($644).
None of this has been confirmed by Microsoft, but it hasn’t been denied either. I guess we’ll just have to wait for an official announcement, but if had to put a bet on it, I’d say the “Super Elite” Xbox 360 is more than likely real and we should see it in stores within the next few months.
Leaked Modern Warfare 2 footage
by Rangebar Merani on August 28, 2009 at 10:32 amYessir! Here’s some leaked footage of Modern Warfare 2 that has emerged over the Internets that should get you even more pumped for the highly anticipated shooter. While Infinity Ward and Activision have been relatively quiet about the game and have done a pretty good job keeping much info from getting out, this somehow slipped from under their noses from a recent Game Crazy retail event and features some great action from the Rio de Janeiro stage. Now stop reading and check out that video!

Microsoft confirms Xbox 360 price cut: $300 Elite, $250 Pro
by Rangebar Merani on August 28, 2009 at 10:18 am
Well, this ain’t no surprise. After weeks of rumor and speculation for a price cut on the Xbox 360 Elite and a discontinuation of the 360 Pro, Microsoft has finally confirmed the price cut and it officially starts today. The 120GB Elite console is now $300, a whopping $100 cheaper, and the 60GB Pro console is now $50 cheaper at $250, but only while supplies last because once they’re sold out, there won’t be anymore. The hard drive-less Arcade edition still remains at $200.

Xbox 360 Review: King of Fighters XII
by Dan Landis on August 25, 2009 at 2:06 pm
My brother and I frequently talk about the good ol’ days of gaming — 2-D, side-scrolling, sprites, fun, etc. — and we wonder why these ideas aren’t reimplemented with today’s technology. Then Shadow Complex was announced and we were angry that we weren’t being paid. That was our idea!
Anyhow, King of Fighters XII is somewhat of a throwback to the fighting games of yesteryear. Completely 2-D with hand-drawn sprites and crappy music. What’s not to love? Read on and find out! Read more…
New Game Releases: 8/23 – 8/29
by Rangebar Merani on August 23, 2009 at 1:02 pm
Some big time games coming out this week including Batman: Arkham Asylum, Metroid Prime Trilogy, Harvest Moon: Magical Melody, Dissidia Final Fantasy and Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box. I’m pumped for the new Batman title, as any of you who played the demo should know it’s pretty dope and for those who missed out on any of the Metroid Prime games for the Gamecube, here’s your chance to catch up and get all three games for the price of one. Final Fantasy owners should be excited for Dissidia Final Fantasy, the PSP brawler featuring a variety of FF characters, finally coming out and giving PSP owners something to look out for.
Oh, and you might have noticed that Raven Squad: Operation Hidden Dagger was on last week’s new release list, but it was pushed back to this week. Hit the jump for the full list of new games this week and my pick of the week.

That’s right. This also means that once the Cataclysm hits, you won’t be able to access the old quest chains any longer.

God of War Trilogy Coming to PS3 this December?

Knowing is Half the Battle: G.I. John… Madden?
by Chad Lakkis on August 20, 2009 at 1:37 pmAs it turns out, the old G.I. Joe Saying “knowing is half the battle” applies to more than just the military. According to the press release sent to me today by EA Sports, a recent study revealed that gamers who played John Madden football were more passionate and knowledgeable about the actual game of football itself. This must also mean that those who play Grand Theft Auto are more knowledgeable and passionate about rape, car bombs, and roof top sniping.

Final Fantasy XIII Promises 50 Hours of Story Based Gameplay Goodness
by Chad Lakkis on August 20, 2009 at 1:16 pm
In a fit of laughter, Final Fantasy director, Motomu Toriyama, and producer, Yoshinori Kitase, revealed that the latest installment of the series (XIII) would have a main storyline that lasted around 50 hours long. This bit of information was unearthed during a Q&A session by Spanish gaming site Meristation.
As someone who loves the FF RPG series, this means that I will have more time to play and less time to do other bothersome things like bathe and sleep.
New Game Releases: 8/16 – 8/22
by Rangebar Merani on August 17, 2009 at 10:31 pm
The end of summer is creeping up slowly, which means not much longer for the fall season of video game releases. But before we get too hyped up, we’ve still got to get by these last few weeks of mediocre game releases. Wolfenstein and Raven Squad headline this week in new games with other notable titles such as Shadow Complex and Tales of Monkey Island Chapter 2 being digitally released. Hit the jump for the full list of new games coming out and my pick of the week.
Bethesda Has No Plans for The Elder Scrolls V
by Demi Adejuyigbe on August 15, 2009 at 1:31 pmBad news for anyone who was a fan of TESIV: Oblivion or TESIII: Morrowind (or should I say, anyone who playes TESIV: Oblivion or TESIII: Morrowind)- Bethesda says they have made no plans for a fifth game in the series.
At QuakeCon 09, a fan asked Bethesda’s Todd Howard if their future plans included a fifth Elder Scrolls game. But rather than give a flat out “Not gonna happen” and destroy the hopes of millions, Howard simply gave the standard “we have no plans for that game at this time” answer, which, unsurprisingly, still crushes the hopes of millions.
A second fan asked if there were any plans for an Elder Scrolls MMO as rumored, and Howard said “There’s always a chance.” For those of you not as skilled in the art of PR talk, that’s practically a “Hell yeah, its coming!”
