Modern Warfare 2: Record GameStop Preorders & $500 Million Week One Sales Predictions

In a few days, the latest installment of Infinity Ward’s Modern Warfare series will be upon us, but until then, we will have lots of amped up predictions and mind boggling preorder numbers to discuss. The joys of anticipation.
During a recent interview,GameStop VP, Tony Bartel, said that:
“As of today, the number of pre-order reservations we’ve taken for [Modern Warfare 2] is the highest for any title we’ve ever sold in our 6,200 store network.”
In addition to that, analyst Michael Pachter made some hefty sales predictions as a part of his Q3 Activision Blizzard financial preview:
“Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 should allow Activision to achieve guidance. We expect global sales to exceed $500 million in the first week following launch, and think that the company can easily sell 10 million units in Q4.”
Can you feel it? The hype machine is moving faster than a heat seeking missile, and after a rough patch consisting of dedicated server debate and leaked terrorist gameplay footage, Infinity Ward likely welcomes the positive feedback. As far as I’m concerned, they are one of the best development teams around and they deserve every ounce of it.
Modern Warfare 2 will be available in stores on Tuesday, November 10th for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.

wow, I was expecting a bunch of comments from “elite computer gamers” saying how them canceling their preorders will somehow catastrophically ruin IW.

Well, as you probably know, hard core gamers are more of a minority. That said, I still think IW has the right to do whatever they want with their intellectual property. It’s a sensitive subject to PC gamers and I am sure they understand that.
