Penny Arcade Launching PATV, Frelevant Shows Coming Soon

The team over at Penny Arcade has just announced their master plan to take over the world, and it all starts with the launch of an online platform called PATV. The web based channel will initially consist of the behind the scenes show titled “Penny Arcade: The Series”, a “fly-on-the-wall” segment titled “The 4th Panel” giving viewers a glimpse into the writing process, and an original monthly animated shorts series called “Blamimations with Kris & Scott”.

Robert Khoo of Penny Arcade explains that while the platform will launch with the three offerings listed above, the company will add additional shows they find funny and relevant, a combination they’re calling “frelevant.” The full press release can be found below.

Penny Arcade Launching PATV, an Online Entertainment Channel, To Showcase Founder Reality Show, Creative Animation Series, New Talent

SEATTLE – Dec. 29, 2009 – Penny Arcade has decided to expand its popular reality show, Penny Arcade: The Series, into a full-blown platform to be called PATV, found online at www.penny-arcade.com/patv/.

The initial programs – all free – include:

  • Penny Arcade: The Series, the inaugural show on PATV, captures the “behind the scenes” experiences of Mike Krahulik and Jerry Holkins, the creators of the Penny Arcade web comic. New episodes of Penny Arcade: The Series will be launched the second and third Friday of each month.
  • The 4th Panel, a segment within the reality series documenting the creative environment behind Penny Arcade. The spiritual successor to the Downloadable Content podcasts, The 4th Panel is a “fly-on-the-wall” program designed to capture the writing process and the strangeness that surrounds it.
  • Blamimations with Kris & Scott, a new series of original video animation shorts by Kris Straub (chainsawsuit.com and Starslip.com) and Scott Kurtz (PVPonline.com). PATV will showcase a new episode every month.

“There’s a lot of talent bubbling just under the surface of the community,” explained Robert Khoo of Penny Arcade. “We decided that we could use the infrastructure and distribution platform we created for Penny Arcade: The Series to showcase some of that, and anything else we think is compelling.”

Penny Arcade plans to add more shows in coming months.

“We’ll occasionally pick up more shows we think are funny, relevant, or a combination of the two, which we’re calling frelevant,” said Khoo. “These three are just the beginning. Hold on to your hats.”
