The Wii Heals the World – Makes it a Fitter Place

The Nintendo Wii is starting to make big steps forward in the medical field. A study was conducted using the Wii in the rehab of patients with various mobility disabilities in North America, and medical professionals found the Wii can be used in the rehabilitation process of patients with muscle weakness, Alzheimer’s, coordination problems and troubles with balance.

Additionally, the study found that the use of the Wii worked in rehab. For example a women with problems balancing after a surgery used Wii Ski to regain the core and hip strength needed to balance while walking. When all was said and done, the  research proved that over fifty Wii games had positive effects on the patient’s coordination.

But the benefits of the Wii apparently don’t stop there, as the console was found to have beneficial neurological properties, significantly decreasing the levels of depression in the test group exposed to it. So it appears that while the Wii may not be the “greatest system on Earth”, it does make a strong case for being the most versatile.
