EA Planning “First Strong Attack” on Call of Duty with Bad Company 2

Electronic Arts has begun it’s plan to gun down the Call of Duty series in terms of FPS multiplayer and it’s “first strong attack” will be with Battlefield: Bad Company 2, according to EA European boss, Jens Uwe Intat.

“In March we will launch Battlefield: Bad Company 2, which is our first strong attack on Call Of Duty,” he told MCV (via CVG) today.

“The shooter space is one we don’t want to give up. It’s an important genre and we were the number one. So we are certainly working on how we can get that crown back and Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is an important product in that context. If any of our studios can take on Modern Warfare, then it’s DICE.”

EA sounds pretty confident that DICE and Battlefield: Bad Company 2 can hold it’s ground against the Call of Duty series. And if Bad Company 2 is just the “first strong attack”, then we’re guessing that the new Medal of Honor coming out later this year will be it’s second attack.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 launches on March 2 in the US and March 5 in Europe.

So I buy this, then in 2011 when the next one is out you can turn off the servers. Fuck that.

    They probably deserved that.

I don't know ANYONE would have any faith in EA at this point. They've proven themselves over and over again, especially recently to be greedy assholes. Servers for ALL online games should be running for at least the life of the system. I knew early in the 360s lifecycle when EA demanded they control their own servers instead of Xbox Live running them that this is what they intended.

This is like a battle between Baal and Lucifer to me.

I understand their need to monetize their product and ensure high sales for future releases but at the end of the day, it would be nice to see at least some aspects of their business plan that remotely resemble a shred of regard for their end consumer.

Seeing ads on every otherwise non informational snap in Madden and watching them shut down servers that normally would remain up based on their previous standards is just … well, for lack of a better word, it's lame.

I'd love to find an argument that defends them if only because I have met some cool people that work there, but it's obvious to me at this point that the higher ups in that company just aren't on the same page with what their consumers want.
