Darksiders 360 Screen Refresh/Tearing Issues Taint War’s Debut, Vigil Games Says Patch Coming Soon

I started digging into Darksiders last night and exchanged a few emails with Jim Sterling over at Destructoid about 30 minutes in or so. I wanted to see if any other writers out there had gotten the PS3 version, or if they were experiencing any of the screen refresh/tearing issues I was getting on its 360 counterpart primarily when turning the camera from side to side. It was at this point that I learned of the IGN interview with Vigil Games Creative Director Joe Madureira, in which Joe tells IGN that their company is aware of the screen refresh issues on the 360 version of Darksiders and that a patch should be released soonish.

I happen to agree with Jim on this one. How the hell do you not catch this prior to release? On a positive note though, even with the screen refresh/tearing issues, Darksiders is the most fun as I’ve had in a game since Uncharted 2 and Batman Arkham Asylum. It’s not perfect by any means, but it has no problem capturing your interest and holding on to it for several hours at a time. The only word of advice I would have to those thinking of picking it up with two console options is, steer away from the 360 version until a patch is released.

I wonder how they're going to fix this? Screen tearing is usually caused by the games' engine not being able to keep up with the graphics processor (as far as I know).

    That's some bad mojo.

They probably have vsync turned off. I'd imagine they'll just turn it on.

Surprisingly guys the game is really fun. A bit jagged around the edges but very colorful and engaging. Not exactly sure what I will score it yet but the game is definitely not a flop.

I need a PS3 and a Wii soon, so I'll have more options concerning game versions.

But I guess I'll tide myself over with other games till I hear that the 360 version is fixed. Good to know the game is meeting/exceeding expectations.

The puzzle solving aspect of Darksiders really keeps you on your toes.

I watched the trailer for this and dismissed it as a poor man's Devil May Cry clone. However, the reviews are rolling in and it's getting pretty positive feedback. The only problem is, it might come down to a choice between this and Bayonetta, which seem to be similar games.

As for the tearing, I'm going to play 'parrot' and ask exactly what breed of half-blind chimp did they get to test this before they launched? I know with the scale of games increasing exponentially that occasionally bugs are going to creep through, but something like this should be hammered out before the Alpha stage, to be quite honest.
