Dead Space 2 and Crysis 2 Coming Fiscal 2011

EA have revealed to investors (and therefore the rest of the world) that their next lineup of games, which most notably includes Crysis 2 and Dead Space 2, will release in Fiscal Year 2011. Don’t see that date and feel like it’ll be a long time, however, since Fiscal 2011 runs from April 1, 2010 until March 31, 2011. Most likely these games will hit this year.

I’m looking forward to both of these games, particularly Crysis 2. I hope that it can set the graphical new level that Crysis set- otherwise PC games will forever look like slightly higer resolution versions of console games. Why have so much more power in a PC and not use it? I hope this is what Crytek goes for, and that EA lets them.

I have to disagree about Crysis 2, while I enjoyed the original games (quite a bit, actually), I thought it was quite a waste of hardware that they set the graphical requirements so high, unnecessarily. Some tweaks to how the engine runs in conjunction with the hardware and you can still have an outstanding looking game. An excellent example is how the Unreal series of engines have evolved over time, but they run on practically any system (and probably also why the Unreal engines have been licensed to be used in so many games of today (even ones that Epic didn't create, such as Batman: Arkham Asylum)

Crysis, on the other hand sometimes won't run at all on even higher-end systems unless everything is turned down. So the user is stuck constantly wondering what everything (quite literally, everything) would look like if they had more money to spend on upgrades.

And yes, I'm against the notion that I should have to buy a new graphics card or computer every year in order to just play a good game. We're already giving manufacturers enough excuses to make parts that don't last very long.

That's not to say I don't want progress, I do, just in a manner that utilizes old technology in new ways.
