70-80% of Publishers Working on Natal Games

According to Robbie Bach, the President of Entertainment & Devices Division at Microsoft, around 70 – 80% of the publishers in the world are already working on games for Project Natal.

“Part of the reason we showed Natal at E3 – which is actually a little bit risky to be honest because it’s a new technology, very cutting edge and relatively early in its development – is that we wanted third-party publishers to know that it was real and we wanted them to have developer kits and to get them working on it.”

“We have something like 70% or 80% of the publishers in the world already doing Natal-based games. Our first party studios are [also] very focused on this. We want to have a few titles from Microsoft that show the way and then we want the breadth and power of the ecosystem from our partners to bring lots of new ideas, new innovations, new concepts to the marketplace.

“Xbox games don’t go away; you have to think of all this as additive. I think it adds to the beauty of what’s going on.”

I sure hope this is true, because the bigger the launch library for Natal, the quicker we’ll be able to tell if it really is the next best thing in gaming or just an overblown pile.

    “or just an overblown pile.”

^ If they don't get their marketing straightened out it's going to be that ^

Microsoft has the wrong idea to market this product. Sure, saying “this is going to be the best thing since sliced bread” in every other ad, website, e-mail subscription, and webcast would actually work if more people other than the elite select few have actually seen games/played games with Natal. They need to get past the stage of “Here's the next best thing, here's what the ~device~ looks like!” and gear up for “Here's what it can do, here's some games it can play, here's someone other than some celebrity playing it”

And just get over it Microsoft and pronounce it like I'm sure everyone and their mom have been since the announcement came out. You know what I'm talking about…
