GRIN’s Final Fantasy “Fortress” Footage Found!

Another day, another out-of-work game developer leaking assets from what they supposed was a canceled project. Today, it’s former GRIN sound designer Jonatan Crafoord — and the assets are none other than the first footage of their doomed Final Fantasy game, codename “Fortress.”

While Jonatan never explicitly mentions either “Final Fantasy” or “Fortress” in the video above, our sword-swinging adventurer’s mount certainly isn’t an ostrich — and several pieces of art in the video match up exactly with the Fortress art of GRIN environmental artist Peter Johansson, as uncovered by Supererogatory last year.

Though the fate of Fortress is still unknown — Gamesindustry.biz reported the title was still in development at Square Enix as of September — it appears that at least Jonatan Crafoord’s story has a happy ending. According to his LinkedIn, Jonatan’s sound design skills are now employed at Media Molecule, the developers of LittleBigPlanet.

you know why i like playing video games? because i can sit on my fat ass and play them with my thumbs. full body controller? eh. what’s worse is that they are talking about “no controller at all”. i understand the concept of the wii with the motion control. it’s cool. but you still need BUTTONS for crying out loud. what do you do, blink your left eye to access the menu and blink your right eye to activate your jetpack?

it's still a controller, but i think this is the way to go. there should be a video of a guy using it to play what looked like an MMO by keybinding his spells to different touches. like pointer – thumb = frost nova, middle – thumb = frostbolt, or whatever. definitely something worth looking into, but still, it IS a controller, just minus the buttons.
