Super Awesome Cosplay Weekly Spotlight #1

Here at Ripten, we embrace diversity. We understand that there are many different shades of geek and that we have no right to cater to the handful we deem worthy of our love. Why ignore those who spend hard earned money and precious time on the costumes we take for granted? Now, we bring you the cosplay spotlight — a weekly offering of the best male and female cosplay on the web. Our focus is more on difficulty and final result rather than half naked and most cleavage, though we won’t shy away from boobs if we truly feel the cosplay is worthy.
Today, East meets West in a cliche battle between cardinal directions. We take a look at two RPG juggernauts, western Mass Effect and oh so eastern Final Fantasy.

Hmwsg x as Tali’Zorah Nar Rayya: This costume is literally one of perhaps three in the world. It’s virtually the only one you’ll find online since very few cosplayers dare to attempt this character. There are more asari out there than quarians, which leads me to believe that costumers fear imitation armor far more than latex. The various textures give this costume depth and the inclusion of an LED mouth piece really makes this creation shine. Check out her Cosplay profile. She even added talons. Well done.

Score as Zell Dincht: You laugh now, but this is perhaps one of the more difficult Final Fantasy VIII costumes to pull off. Score nailed it. The wig is spot on and the tattoo is clean. Hell, everything looks seamless. What’s better is he simply looks the part. This ensemble is very misleading with its surface simplicity, but this example just goes to show you how a little extra time and effort can turn a potential disaster into a kickass cosplay.
Join us next week as we spotlight more cosplay brilliance.
