Super Awesome Cosplay Weekly Spotlight #2

Here at Ripten, we embrace diversity. We understand that there are many different shades of geek and that we have no right to cater to the handful we deem worthy of our love. Why ignore those who spend hard earned money and precious time on the costumes we take for granted? Now, we bring you the cosplay spotlight — a weekly offering of the best male and female cosplay on the web. Our focus is more on difficulty and final result rather than half naked and most cleavage, though we won’t shy away from boobs if we truly feel the cosplay is worthy.
This week, we’ll take a look at a guy and gal with huge-ass weapons, both hailing from juggernauts of the survival horror and FPS genre: Halo and Silent Hill.
Silent Hill: Pyramid Head

4ng31: Say hello to your nightmares, Pyramid Head has come to play. Silent Hill is one of the scariest damn games ever made, packed full of bizarre, terrifying creatures born of your innermost fears. What’s scarier? When it comes to life thanks to 4ng31. This gentleman’s hard work really shows. The head is an incredibly difficult prop for people who’ve never worked on a large scale. I’ve seen many that are simply slabs of poster board held together with a bit of epoxy, but look at the groves on the wider sides. The giant knife alone is an accomplishment. It has a great worn, rusted look. You can even see the special effects applied to his bare skin, creating a withered, twisted texture. Positively kick-ass.
Halo: UNSC Marine

Zonbi: There are two types of costumes that tend to ward off interest: those that involved copious amounts of body paint, and those that require armor. Zonbi, however, has no fear. Halo armor has been on the rise thanks to the introduction of pepakura (paper-based armor fashioned out of card stocks and reinforced with fiberglass and resin). And damn, she’s pink. The rocket launcher is a particularly nice touch. It’s always awesome to see a girl running around in a male-dominated cosplay. It’s even cooler to see one attempt an often overlooked costume like the marine, since most tend to stick to the stereotypical Spartan. You go, rocket girl.
