Halo: Reach to Have “Never Seen Before” Gameplay, Hyperbole

Did Peter Molyneux start working on Halo games when I wasn’t paying attention? Are jokes about Peter Molyneux’s love of over exaggeration still funny? Either way, the thing in the quotation marks up there is a direct quote from Stephen McGill, Microsoft’s Director of Entertainment. That position sounds a lot like something Leonard F. Chikarason would be doing if he worked for Microsoft. Exactly one of you got that reference, and I salute you for it.

From McGill’s interview with CVG:

As you can imagine, we’re really excited about Halo Reach and with the beta coming in May you’ll get a chance to experience some of the new features and gameplay never seen before

I really hope we are all blowing this quote out of proportion and he really just meant gameplay that hasn’t been seen in a Halo game before. Because I have yet to see anything in any of the videos released for this game that points to our minds getting the Scanners treatment when we play it. Sure, I’ll admit that I’m more excited for this than any other Halo game, but in the spirit of full disclosure I should point out that I pretty much can’t stand Halo’s multiplayer. Don’t bother arguing, I’ve heard it all- I just don’t like it even a little bit. Despite that, Halo: Reach still has me interested. It has everybody interested. It is fucking Halo. I hate Coldplay too, but anytime they have an album coming out I’m completely aware of it just by the nature of its existing. When you get to a certain level of public knowledge you don’t need to come out and make silly statements that this is going to be the “mega super ultra ultimate game of the year” or anything, people are already drooling all over their beanbag chairs just thinking about it. But we all know that at this point all shooters are basically the same mechanics put together differently. Unless Halo: Reach is actually the working title for “Okami: Modern Warfare” I doubt anything is going to really surprise the gaming world.

I guess we will all find out on May 3rd though.
