BioWare DLC Will Fill The Gaps Between Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3

Mass Effect 2′s lead producer, Casey Hudson, recently revealed in an interview that the plot holes between ME2 and ME3 will be filled by DLC. Oh joy of joys.

You know that alternate appearance pack you purchased the other day? You know, the one that finally put a real shirt on Jack and let Thane wear sunglasses at night?  That was a plot device.

With ME3 currently in development and BioWare determined to keep its mouth shut about the details, all we have to hold us over until its eventually release are Hudson’s assurances that these content packs will actually be worthwhile. Lucky for you, the success and failure of this project will be determined by your cheers and jeers.

“So, for the time being there’s going to be a continued stream of DLC for people. We’ll start to have packs that’ll tell the story between Mass Effect 2 and 3. But beyond that we kind of have to see how people are responding to what we have and go from there.”

Hopefully, they’ve been taking careful notes and reading my personal blog daily, since the first batch of DLC has had mixed reviews. Kasumi- Stolen Memory was a step in the right direction, offering players another loyalty mission with a healthy mix of combat and espionage. Not to mention a complementary slinky black dress/snappy new tux. However, the introduction to the Hammerhead hover tank in the Firewalker patch did leave me with a sense of… what’s the word… I hate it? A glorified tutorial mission isn’t quite the content I had in mind, but then again… it was free. I can’t complain, yet I must.

The true test of their word will be the Overlord DLC scheduled for release sometime next month. BioWare assures us that this story-based content pack will be the largest yet ( it better be if it’s going to eat up 560 MS points) and will finally allow non-linear planetary exploration.

If we’re looking at maybe seven or eight more of these content packs, then BioWare will certainly have to step it up if the end result is the price of a new game. However, our friends from the north don’t like to disappoint their loyal fans, so I myself will walk away from this news with hope.
