Beyond Good & Evil 2 Still In Development

Look at Ubisoft still talking when there's developing to do.

A few days ago, it was rumored that the creator of the Rayman series and Beyond Good and Evil, Michel Ancel, had left Ubisoft. With this news, it was safe to assume that Beyond Good & Evil 2 had left development Hell for the development landfill and that Pey’J and Jade would never get out of that desert. Yeah, well that’s not true.

Ubisoft brings news today that not only is Michel Ancel still on board with the company, but Beyond Good & Evil 2 is still in development. You can put those cyanide pills down again! Of course, they didn’t say anything about how far along in development the game is, so we could be talking about Ubisoft’s Duke Nukem Forever for all we know. Let’s just hope that they talk more about the game at E3 or at least give us something to whet our appetites.

Below is the leaked footage (confirmed by Ubisoft) of BG&E2 from last year, in case you’ve forgotten just what it is you’re supposed to be excited about.

Is it me or does that footage make you think of what Mirror’s Edge could have been as a third person shooter?

No joke Chad, if Mirror’s Edge would have been a third person shooter I might have played it longer! Don’t get me wrong I liked the game, it just was once you played through it, that was that. A little bit of gun play would have went a long way.

If Mirrors Edge had forced gunplay (moreso than it already does), it would have negated the whole non-violence theme that it had going, which was one of the things I loved about it. You really don’t have to put guns into everything, and personally, I would have preferred it if it were possible to never have to pick up a gun, to never fight someone. Unfortunately, the story and mechanics didn’t push that. What I think gamers should be arguing, isn’t that Mirror’s Edge should have had more guns and better gunplay, but that there should have been more variety to the platforming, and more creative methods of outwitting your foes.

Incidentally, Beyond Good and Evil did have a whole non-violence theme, where you never actually have to murder anyone, you’re just a photo-journalist trying to uncover a story. If they shove a gun in your hand in BG&E2 (which I doubt will happen), artistically, that would be a big mistake.

Mirriors Edge could be beat without using a gun to kill someone, I did and got the trophy, just it was really difficult in some areas lol. But just like I hope this game gets done, I also wish something on Mirriors Edge 2 would get released because even though it wasnt perfect, it was original and they could really do it much better with a sequel. And if it was 3rd person, it wouldn’t feel as original or as satisfying I think because when you really started running, my adrenaline really took a ride especially when you jumped and slide down the windows as the chopper shot at you. Ah great times.
