New Nerkas Solutions Inc. Video Hits Youtube, We Break It Down

We recently spent some time trying to research the “Nerkas Solutions Inc.” video that surfaced on YouTube about 12 hours ago, and while doing so, we noticed that another video (offering an extended look and a different angle), was uploaded by the same user roughly six hours later. Presently, we know that the video is being broadcasted outside the Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles, and the domain “nerkas.com” has been snatched by Square Enix Europe (formerly Eidos Interactive). The rest is a mystery, but that doesn’t mean we can’t speculate.

Have a look at the latest trailer below, and make sure to read our interpretation of it afterwords.

The trailer itself starts off with a message to all those viewing it outside the Staples Center. Here is our best interpretation of what is displayed:

“This footage, uniquely obtained by an industrial journalist, is about a confidential material of a certain big player.”

“Please note that there are some images and audio noise in the footage.”

It then goes on to feature a persistent on screen “06/03/2031″ date stamp and leads with the words “WARNING” before it proceeds to initiate some sort of five part countdown/download sequence. A “Nerkas Solutions Inc.” logo, complete with triangle shaped icon to its left, flashes on the screen momentarily. It is then replaced by a rotating character (much like you’d expect to see in a game’s customization screen) fitted with futuristic looking armor. The character digitally explodes, and is followed up by a series of what looks like cardboard cutout characters (all wearing various modern day outfits) that pop up onto the screen as if they were hinged to the ground at the feet.

Throughout the reveal of these present day looking figures, the screen flickers as if you were watching it on an old TV with poor reception while trying to wiggle the antenna. Just as we started to think that this effect might have been done to symbolize some sort of digital transmission, the camera perspective shoots through the crowd, zooming in on the face of a short haired woman who also happens to be dressed futuristically. She spins much like the armored character in the screen prior, however her rotation is brief and meant to reveal a specific piece of hardware — a Bluetooth looking earpiece to be more exact.

A red laser like spec hovers over the device’s surface quickly as if to say “look here!” The perspective then shifts back to the woman’s face briefly, before fixating on her eye as it begins to glow. We’re then suddenly transported into what we can only assume is the inner workings of her eye via the same digital type explosion/transition that occurred on the heavily armored male character initially. The transition effect fades, and we are now presented with a first person perspective of what we can only assume is some sort of digital entity/power source capable of penetrating the mind of others. It approaches a bald man wearing a modern day business suit as he raises his hands in attempt to shield his ears/head.

At this point, we believe our perspective is now that of the man in the suite. His hands drop from his head (which leads me to believe the perspective shift is instant) and he begins to run forward firing his gun at others. What happens next appears to be a montage of chaos, filled with armed soldiers, massive explosions, and simultaneous dropping bodies. The final shot in this sequence shows two individuals grasping onto the lip of a wall like structure as massive winds attempt to loosen their grip. Could this be some sort of natural disaster? Lastly, the screen fades to black, and we are once again presented with a rotating model of the Bluetooth looking earpiece. We get one more look at the logo, the standard ESRB  “not yet rated” warning, and then the trailer concludes.

We’d be lying if we told you we had all the answers here, but assuming this is a game and not some elaborate viral marketing wild goose chase, we’re fairly certain of the following things:

  • There will both futuristic and present day characters in it.
  • A futuristic mind controlling earpiece will be crucial to the gameplay.
  • You’ll be able to penetrate the mind of others via a digital entity (think black cloud monster from LOST).
  • There will be some level of character customization.
  • The game will involve a massive attack and or natural disaster.

That’s all we’ve got. Feel free to share your thoughts on the meaning, as well as your interpritation of the trailer itself, in the comments section below.

Update 6/6/10: It seems that we may have a match for an actual game tied to this whole Nerkas Solutions Inc. hoopla, and most of what we guessed here is right in line. You can read about the game titled “NANO” right here.

Update 6/8/10: The video below was shot and tipped to us by Ripten reader Gamerfan85. Not only is it an uninterrupted shake-free view of the footage, but it also gives us a chance to actually hear the sound being broadcasted.

This of course sheds some new light on our previous predictions, as the soldier transition and stream of cardboard cut out civilians are now clearly understood as a means to sell up the advantages of the Nerkas Solutions Inc. “KM987″ earpiece technology. We can hear the narration describe the technology as a means to “instantly” and inexpensively prep untrained civilians for battle without the “hassle of long training regimens.”

The clip concludes with one final product pitch:

“Save time and money. Nerkas Solutions, creating the world of tomorrow.”

So, it’s probably safe to say that the third person footage shown mid clip is meant to briefly reveal a bit of gameplay, however, it’s unclear at this point whether the disaster/riot footage shown towards the end is simply meant as a fake advert scare tactic to further drive home the advantages of the product, or to give us an extended look at some actual gameplay scenarios.

Have a look at the clip and let us know what you think in the comments section below. And don’t forget to also check out the rumored NANO game we think this whole thing links to.

Believe it or not, that second video is far better than the first. Thanks for the comment.

The whole thing is confusing and the video footage is shaky but that isn’t your fault. Pretty cool thoughts on it. Mind control stuff seems a little played out but guess we’ll wait and see.

I saw this on friday night! It bugged me all night because I didn’t catch the title of the game, but glad someone took a video. I’m guessing we’ll have an E3 reveal.

Chad, I shot a new video of the trailer. I was lucky enough to be there on a relatively quiet time of the day so I picked up all the audio from the trailer, which explains the game a little more.

    Also, it’s not shaky!!!

Thanks Gamer. I’m going to add your video clip to the post now.
