New Xbox 360 Box Redesign Hinting At Something Big?

Microsoft has started to roll out some new Xbox 360 video game box branding that you can see on pre-order pages for yet to be released games like as Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and I’m here to tell you that there’s a very good chance the newness doesn’t end there.

Now, I can’t say for certain, but  after having spent nearly ten years in the marketing world as everything from a designer to a creative director, it’s my opinion that changes like this don’t usually happen in piece mail. They’re almost always a part of a larger re-branding initiative meant to revitalize a corporation’s image in order to better help them adjust to changing times, or accompany a new announcement/service.

Of course Microsoft isn’t in need of a complete branding overhaul, but a slightly “fresher” look (dashboard included) might be seen by corporate types as the perfect way to help reintroduce their current customer base to … oh I don’t know, a new peripheral and a slimmer console maybe?

What do you think? Is this redesign meant to help jump start our passion for the brand, with hopes that we’ll then dish out the cash for a new slim 360 console with a side of Natal? Sound off in the comments section below.
