Sony Announces MotorStorm Apocalyse

In a move that surprise no one, Sony went ahead and announced the third game in the MotorStorm series, MotorStorm Apocalyse, on the Playstation.blog today. While the title would suggest that the game takes place after the apocalypse, the synopsis Evolution Studios’s Matt Southern gives is much more exciting.

We’ve set this MotorStorm in ‘The City’, inspired by the West Coast of America, and, in particular, the Bay Area of California. The city has been abandoned and somewhat damaged after a tremor. When the ‘Stormers find this out, they head straight in. Pretty soon, two things become clear: it isn’t completely empty and Mother Nature isn’t done yet! Throughout the game the city will be ripped to pieces, in real-time, as you race. Routes will be affected, as will our emergent gameplay.

The way I see it, this game is going to play similar to Disney’s Split/Second, with the interactive, destructive environments, but it’s going to be a lot like the past two MotorStorm games in terms of vehicles and features. Speaking of features, MotorStorm Apocalypse will be bringing 16-person online, 4-person split-screen, five new vehicle classes, and many other things that you can read about over on the Playstation.blog. Hopefully we’ll hear more about this when E3 rolls around, but for now, I’m liking what we already know.

Why do you think it will play similar?

Perhaps “play similar” was the wrong phrasing. I think it will be similar, with the environments being destroyed as you race along the tracks, which was one of my favorite parts of Split/Second. Of course, it will probably play in the same way the previous games did.

I think it will probably play similar too. Split/Second was awesome. Have to agree with Demi on that too. Can’t wait for your E3 coverage guys. Ripten is one of the few sites I visit that hasn’t sold out like the majority of the big boys.
