A lot of news has come out of E3 already, and it’s only been one day of presentations so far. With all of the news, and all of the words, it’s hard to know what exactly we should care about and what we should read. While the details in all of our posts are great, and helpful for understanding what happened today, here’s the short, colloquial summaries of the news we got today.
- New Xbox is out. 250GB built in, WiFi, same price. Super super quiet. It’s out /now/. Well, this week- they’re shipping them out now. Everyone in the audience got a free one. E3 10: Australian Xbox 360 Slim Price Confirmed. They’re redoing all the Xbox models as the new one. I want it.
- Natal is Kinect, coming at launch with 15 titles. $149.99, regular prices games. November 4th.
- There’s a new dashboard compatible with Kinect, so you can wave your hands in front of the Kinect and control your movies, Xbox dashboard, music, etc. Video chat with Kinect. Looks neato.
- Lots of Kinect fitness stuff. One form EA, one from Ubisoft. Ubisoft also working on a game that reduces stress by breathing in and out. Not Kinect related.
- Ghost Recon: Future Warrior. Set in the future. You can go invisible and do close range combat.
- Ubisoft is making a lazer tag game called BattleTag. Not for any console, it’s just laser tag.
- Shaun White Skateboarding looks like hot hot stuff. The story of Fahrenheit 451 (but reading = skateboarding) but gameplay of the old THPS games + deBlob. Environments you can construct as you skate.
- New Assassin’s Creed. Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood. Multiplayer. Sex scenes. Multiplayer sex scenes?
- New trippy-as-hell game called Children of Eden that is controlled with your hands in Kinect. Follow up to Tetsuyo Miziguchi’s Rez.
- Two new Star Wars games. One for Kinect where you can use an air-lightsaber, and Star Wars: The Old Republic MMO, where you can get your own starship.
- New Sonic game for Kinect. Sonic Free Riders.
- New Medal of Honor games looks incredible. Like Super Call of Duty + Super Battlefield.
- New game called Dance Central for Kinect coming out. Like full-body DDR. It’s awesome. Kinect must-have for me.
- XBL gold members get free ESPN basketball, baseball, and football games, and you can control the games with motion in Kinect if you want.
- Space combat in the new Halo: Reach or something. There wasn’t much announced about Halo, really.
- Microsoft gets COD:Black Ops DLC & map exclusivity until 2012.
- New Driver game. Set in San Francisco, goes back to the Tanner vs. Jericho roots. Will have licensed cars.
- Maniaplanet. Social Trackmania (Racing), Shootmania (FPS), Questmania (RPG). You can share and experience levels and maps with friends.
- Raving Rabbids: Travel In Time. Nov. 9th, Wii exclusive Rabbids game.
- Michael Jackson: The Game. That is literally all we know.
- MadCatz announces Kinect accessories. They’re bullshit, with bullshit prices. Nobody is surprised.
- Bulletstorm coming Feb. 22, 2011. Have fun waiting.
- Crysis 2 comings for all major non-Wii platforms. Set in New York. Has giant robots and 3D.
- Bad Company 2: Vietnam. Winter of this year.
- EA announces the Gun Club, an FPS rewards service where you can unlock free things. You can also participate in the Medal of Honor beta through it.
- Dead Space 2 coming January 25th, 2011.
- Fallout: New Vegas coming October 19th.
- Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit. Like older Need for Speed games… but new. November 16th.
- Crytek working on a new Xbox 360 game called Codename: Kingdoms. Looks like 300 meets Spartacus: Blood and Sand.
- BEYOND GOOD AND EVIL 2 WAS NOWHERE TO BE FOUND AND I AM ANGRY DAMN IT
So there you have it. That’s everything important you need to know about the first day of E3, and then some.
