No Cake Jokes for Portal 2
Valve writer Erik Wolpaw has said today that he’s “had enough cake jokes,” adding that he “absolutely does not want to try and resurrect a three-year-old meme.”
“That seems like it would be kind of sad,” Wolpaw says. “If you thought you were sick of the memes, I was sick of it way ahead of you.”
No shit. The cake jokes were funny, delightful, and even delicious while I was playing Portal. When a guy in a sarcastic T-Shirt tells me that the cake is a lie, I die a little inside. I’m glad there will be no reprise. Of course, there will be a reference, I’m sure, but it will be very well done and genuinely funny. Hooray for sanity, eh?
