Mortal Kombat Screenshot Shows 26 Characters, DLC, Mystery Slot

A screenshot of Mortal Kombat’s character select screen shows 26 available characters, a DLC slot, and a slot with a question mark.
This screenshot is obviously from the preview build, so the fighters shown – Scorpion, Mileena, Reptile, Sub-Zero, Kung Lao, Nightwolf, and Sector – are all the ones that have been shown in early footage. If you include Raiden and Shao Khan, who were shown in the reveal video, that leaves 16 more characters to speculate on. Feel free to use the comments to speculate away.

There’s also a slot marked DLC, which is self-explanatory, and across from that is a slot with a question mark. My first thought was a button to randomly select a fighter, but in previous incarnations of the series, you accomplished that with a button combination. Guess we’ll have to wait and find out what it is.
We reached out to NetherRealm’s Mortal Kombat Producer, Hector Sanchez, about the screenshot. Despite the positive reaction to the game thus far, Hector reminded us that it’s still in development and should be viewed as a work in progress. Adding that, while we are of course welcome to guess, there is still no official announcement regarding the final roster.
Ed Boone did say that he was aiming for around 26 characters, so this could be seen as a confirmation of sorts. Hopefully we’ll get more info soon, because the anticipation is killing me! Fatality!
Remember, the new MK isn’t due out until next year, so there’s plenty of time for things to change.
