Microsoft Responds to “Dot of Death” Xbox 360 S Claims

With claims the new and improved Xbox 360 S is still as prone to dying over overheating as the original, it would have only been a matter of time before Microsoft stepped up to the pitching plate to either dissipate or confirm the problems. In an email sent directly to the console manufacturer Microsoft replied;

“We couldn’t be more proud of the consoles we are building now, as well as the new Xbox 360. This console is the culmination of years of continuous innovation in design, testing and learning. Today we are confident we are shipping a high quality product.”

I find the part where they talk about a “culmination of years of continuous innovation in design, testing and learning” quite hard to believe as the console is still suffering the same bricking problems that its predecessor faced.

    Huh? WHAT are you talking about? ALL consoles brick if put in places with no ventilation – ask any PlayStation 3 owner whose system has fried from overheating. The Xbox 360 S now has a warning system to let users know when they have the 360 in a place with no ventilation.

    I haven’t received a “dot of death” yet… but mine sure as hell gets HOT. Much hotter than my Pro or newer Arcade ever got. I could barely touch it after about 6 hours of play last night. That’s a tad scary.

    That looks like a red dot。 I thought it couldn’t display red. Is this bogus?

  • Doe

    It looks like the red dot indicates the console has overheated. However it does not always mean the console is broken. Just wait a while for it to cool down, perhaps improve the ventilation around it and you should be good to go. Fingers crossed, touch wood

    The console shown in the pic is about 6 inches from the wall. That is not enough room for proper ventilation. Perhaps common sense and “reading the instructions” just isn’t cool anymore. Whatever the case, you can’t blame MS for people’s inherent stupidity.

    Klatu….. if the 360 doesn’t work in a standard size component compartment there are still serious issues with the 360….. I could understand if the glass was on the front of the cabinet.

    … That light also appears when haters unplug the audio/video cable to create buzz for crappy articles.

    The “dot of death” that people are complaining about, is on the POWER brick, and not the console itself.

    That’s good to know about the “power brick and not the console” tip, so have you heard anything going wrong with these consoles yet?
    I was thinking of buying one, but every place I go is out of stock, that and I hear these things heat up like crazy. I can’t imagine having that in someone’s room. In a living room, however, I suppose that is acceptable. Point is, has anyone truly heard of these slim lines breaking down yet?
