Nintendo Starts Using Eco-Friendly Wii Game Cases

Today I made sure to pick up a copy of Sin & Punishment Star Successor for the Nintendo Wii.  To my surprise the game came in one of the new eco-friendly Wii cases that I’ve heard Nintendo would eventually be switching to.  This marks the first Nintendo published Wii title that has launched with the new cases.

For comparison take a look at Super Mario Galaxy 2, Nintendo’s last published Wii title before Sin & Punishment Star Successor, which doesn’t include the new eco-friendly case.

I feel this is good for the environment but bad for collectors.  As a collector I prefer the old style of case better as it protects the cover art to a greater degree.  I’m all about helping out the environment, but now my precious games are a bit more exposed.

In case anyone starts to complain, I just started hearing that SOME Super Mario Galaxy 2 copies were also shipped with the old non eco-friendly cases. Still the switch is upon us.

You know what Mr. collector, the environment is a lot more important than your “collection”. Good job Nintendo for becoming eco friendly!

Why should we complain? Why are you against becoming more eco friendly Justin?

Some people also hate these cases because they tend to scratch discs and make games harder to remove from the cases. I haven’t noticed any difference in either of these, but I digress.

I hate em.. Nothing is wrong with the concept, but the are not as robust as the old ones. Plus: the cover (the paper) can start to get wavy very quickly in these. Good for nature, but horrible for protecting your dic and it can get ugly for the eye…

I was just about to mention that my SMG2 came in the newer case. Can’t say I care for it. Sure, I’m all for helping the environment, but not so much at the cost of functionality.

Heck, the side with the booklet doesn’t bother me; I rarely remove the materials there, and there is very little to no pressing involved. The disc side, on the other hand…

I got a copy of a game last week with the new case and I hate them. They are harder to get the discs in and out of and can let more dust and crap in. They are doing with this some newer DVD cases too. These cases are great for a disc thats a givaway or a promo that won’t be kept but something you are going to keep long term and use reguarely they should stick with the normal cases.
