Call of Duty(s) Pass Half Million Mark in Japan, Modern Warfare 2 Gets Price Cut

While the Land of the Rising Sun might not be the ideal market for first-person shooters, they do well enough, as evidenced by the Call of Duty series moving 500k units. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare sold 200k units on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC, while its successor, Modern Warfare 2, sold 300k on Xbox 360 and PS3, making for half a million sales combines. While those sales may pale in comparison to sales in other parts of the world, they’re not too shabby for a country that isn’t big on first-person shooters.

To celebrate, Square Enix is cutting Modern Warfare 2′s price to 3,990 Yen, roughly $45 USD, starting September 2nd. That’s not a massive discount, but it’s pretty nice for such a great game that’s been out for less than a year.

Activision revealed in March of this year that Modern Warfare 2 had sold 14 million copies worldwide. As of May 2009, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare had sold 13 million copies worldwide.

Huh, never knew that. I just got a question to ask a kid at work to hopefully stump him.
