“Deep Black” Announced: Finally, An Underwarter Shooter

505 Games have announced today that they will be partnering with Russian developer Biart Studio LLC to release Deep Black, a new shooter set underwater, for both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

The developer says that the “unique setting of Deep Black” features plenty of shooting and battling with a “complex science-fiction mystery, espionage and bio-terror” storyline. Needless to say, you’ll be using “underwater jet packs with integrated harpoons, mini submersibles and other high tech equipment.” The game will also supposedly feature realistic underwater physics. The game is set to be be released Q1 2011.

From the sounds of it, and the two screenshots that have been released (the second one is below), it seems very interesting indeed. It’s great to see a new environment for a shooter, although they’ll need to make sure it’s not too similar to space-shooter Shattered Horizon. Shouldn’t be too hard, given that there is a shitload more stuff underwater than there is in space.
