Sonic Colors Allowing GameCube & Classic Controllers?

Controller compatibility can be something of a problem when it comes to playing some games, and in particular, Wii games. Despite the number of options available to developers, they don’t always take advantage of them, leaving something of a bothersome nuisance in place for players to either deal with, or move on.

For example, as great as New Super Mario Bros. Wii was, some did not and do not like using the Wii Remote in its NES-style formation. For some people, it’s uncomfortable, due to the size of their hands. Others disliked the reliance on shaking the remote in order to perform certain actions; a button worked for picking things up the past 20 years, so what could have changed?

On the opposite side of the coin, there are some developers who will support any controller you put in front of them; the likes of Nintendo’s own Mario Kart Wii and Super Smash Bros. Brawl would let you utilize the Wii Remote, add a Nunchuk if you wish, go oldschool with the Classic controller, or even go really oldschool (relatively speaking) with the GameCube controller.

And while SEGA hasn’t always shown that level of support (Sumo Digital didn’t allow for the GameCube controller in Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing, for instance), that will apparently not be the case in their upcoming action-platformer featuring the Blue Blur, Sonic Colors.

The game, which has been met with positive reception by those who have had the opportunity to play it, recently made an appearance on Nintendo of America’s Nintendo Channel on the Wii by way of a product page. And on that page is the following image:

Indeed, it would appear that in addition to a regular Wii Remote-and-Nunchuk set-up, Sonic Colors will also allow players to utilize the Classic Controller or the GameCube controller as well. And judging by the varied responses in the comments of other sites, it would seem to be a move well-played by SEGA, as everyone has their own opinion.

However, that’s all if this listing is indeed accurate. As noted by The Sonic Stadium:

Lets just hope Nintendo of America aren’t accident prone with their Nintendo Channel like Nintendo Europe, Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing’s EU Nintendo Channel page still to this day claims the game supports the GameCube Controller which we know isn’t supported.

For now, we’ll hope for the best while debating which controller we’d prefer to use.

I really, really wanted Sonic Colors to be ace but it’s not. It’s just another ropey effort from Sega, honestly, do they even listen to their fans at all?
All I want is a decent Sonic 2D plat-former and before you shout out “what about Sonic 4″ to that I say, um, no, no thanks. That controlled terribly.
