12% of UK Citizens Cannot See 3D Properly

A study into UK citizens has revealed that over one in ten people in the UK are unable to see 3D images properly. This may have big implications on the marketability of 3D gaming devices, like the PS3 and the 3DS.

The research from the Eyecare Trust notes that “more than one in ten of us (12%) has a visual impairment that means our brains are unable to correctly process the individual images that are transmitted to it via our left and right eyes.

“This leads to an inconsistency in viewing the three spatial dimensions (height, width and depth) required to enjoy 3-D films [and games] in all their glory.”

EDGE have noticed that Sony have included this health warning in their Terms of Service:

“Some people may experience discomfort (such as eye strain, eye fatigue or nausea) while watching 3D video images or playing stereoscopic 3D games on 3D televisions. If you experience such discomfort, you should immediately discontinue use of your television until the discomfort subsides.”

The novelty of 3D is undoubtedly fun, but when you’re getting headaches and pains, it’s just not something that you’re ever going to be interested in again- and with 12% of the market for something like the 3DS unable to even see the 3D effect, it makes you wonder how long the 3D fad will last. Can you see 3D images? I can see them, but I do experience the aches and pains associated with it after a little while using it. I’m hoping that the 3DS won’t have this effect on me, but that remains to be seen.
