Call of Duty: Black Ops Preorders are Outperforming Modern Warfare 2′s

As if you needed any more proof that the general public will buy the same thing over and over without question, the preorder numbers for Call of Duty: Black Ops are outdoing even those of Modern Warfare 2.
Allegedly retail sources are noting that “pre-orders for Black Ops are outpacing those of Modern Warfare 2.” Pacific Crest Securities analyst Evan Wilson has placed his total sales estimate at 12 million (for reference, Modern Warfare 2 sold 16 million).
He says that the lower number is due to “competition, weaker marketing, and the Infinity Ward situation.” Personally, I don’t think that any of these things will deter the main audience for these games- because the main audience for these games already know that they want the new Call of Duty game before it is even announced. Activision know what they’re doing, and I have no doubt that Black Ops sales will allow Bobby Kotick to buy the planet Earth.
