Sonic Colors Update, and “Franchise-Changing” Announcement Still to Come?

It looks like SEGA is back to rattling some cages with Sonic info this week.

Recently, on the Sonic Wrecks podcast Radio Redux, SEGA UK representative ArchAngelUK said there would be two announcements coming this week. One would involve Sonic Colors, while the other would be “franchise changing news.”

The first info came today on the Sonic City Blognik. Simply put, they revealed a new Wisp power-up that Sonic will be able to obtain in his upcoming Wii and DS adventure.

This orange Wisp, when used, will allow Sonic to blast off into the air like a rocket, “reaching unparalleled heights at staggering speed.” This way, he can reach new areas to explore and find more rings to collect.

The other announcement is slated for Thursday, and “won’t be particularly about the games.” However, ArchAngelUK told The Sonic Stadium the following in their comments:

I did say “franchise changing” kind of all overdramatically – Its not THAT big, though it does alter some things… you’ll just have to see what I mean. Incidentally those who’ve so far guessed are all wrong. “Sonic 4 is delayed” peeps included.

Speculation is all over the place regarding what this could be, from a new animated series to new voice actors to replace the 4Kids cast in the games, but if what ArchAngelUK says is true, then it would be something else entirely.

Of course, the announcement has made some wary– SEGA seems to be on something of a streak where winning back some goodwill from old Sonic fans is concerned, with Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I and Sonic Colors receiving praise. Now, it appears that the hope is that this announcement won’t be anything that could undo all that goodwill.

What will the announcement be? We’ll be keeping our eyes open.
