Square Still Trying to Get FFXIV on 360

We ran a story a while back about possible subscription fee demands being the reason why the Xbox 360 has seen so few MMOs. In that post it was mentioned that Hiromichi Tanaka, producer of Final Fantasy XIV, cited Xbox LIVE’s “closed environment” policy as the main reason why FFXIV isn’t coming to Xbox 360.

Tanaka has touched on that again, saying that they’re still trying to get FFXIV on the system through negotiations, and if they can reach an agreement, there will definitely be a 360 version of the game. Again he mentions 360′s “closed system.” He also said that Microsoft’s guidelines “were not so clearly defined” in the past, suggesting that maybe Microsoft is trying to be more cooperative with developers.

As of right now, the 360 version has “stopped” development for the forseeable future, while the PC version comes out in September of this year and the PS3 version following in 2011.

Square should leave the 360 console be and concentrate on PS3 and PC. No point in pursuing a fan base for the FF series in a market(360) where MMO’s are not really appreciated much.

I agree and disagree with you Edward,

Yes, the 360 has alot more gamers, who simply look to the hardcore fps genre, as there medium. Yes, unfortanently, Square is probably wasting it’s time with Microsoft: simply because they are money hungry and don’t realize how stupid they are being in refusing to take on another MMO because of their Xbox live legalities.

However, I know alot of 360 gamers, who have rooted for every MMO that has ever been talked about being released for 360. The only MMO 360 has right now, is FFXI, and three years after it was released, it was still the 6th most played xbox live game.

I beleive that if Microsoft and Square could come to an agreement, it would widen the FFXIV Universe, and both companies could capitalize on once again opening the doors to a new genre for 360 gamers.
