Ubisoft: 2011 Will Might Be a Year Without Assassin’s Creed

It had been reported recently that, like a day without sunshine, 2011 would be a year without a new Assassin’s Creed title. Such was the foretelling of Associate Producer Jean-Fancois Boivin; however, it appears that Ubisoft’s Chief Executive Officer, Yves Guillemot, may feel differently on the matter.

Though he would not confirm nor deny the validity of the statement made by Boivin to Eurogamer, GamePro reports that he told those in attendance at a first-quarter earnings call this morning that “the decision is not theirs,” and “it would not be right to comment right now.”

GoNintendo points out that there is an Assassin’s Creed title, Lost Legacy, on the list of games slated for the 3DS, and that a 2011 release does not seem that unreasonable.

    Eh, they made up for the boring that was AC1 with the awesome that was AC2, so they can have another year to work on the next one if they want. I’m generous like that.

    I don’t think it’s a matter of them “deserving” a year off so much as the IP just needing a breather. Like the guy said in your original article: you can’t plow a field every year. Every once in a while, you need to leave it fallow. Likewise, I think Ubisoft thinks that if they keep forcing their golden goose to lay eggs every year, they just might end up killing it.

    This is sad news indeed. I’ve been looking forward to another installation of the AC series after I finished AC2. What a bummer.

    I don’t think a year off is a good thing because the story line somewhat resolves around the dates of dec. 2012 and the end of life on earth.
