In rather sad news for those intrepid fans who are still playing Rebellion’s Aliens vs Predator, which I should remind you all I actually seemed to enjoy more than most people, Sega has apparently scrapped any plans for further patching the console versions of the game. In a post on Sega’s forums, community manager Clumsyorchid (and I really wish I could find his real name, because attributing a quote to ‘Clumsyorchid’ just feels so Twitter) stated;
I’ve just received a mail this AM regarding patches for the console versions of AVP and I regret to inform everyone that these have sadly been scrapped. I had previously made a claim that these were coming and at the time, this was very much on the table. For the console community, I apologize, as I know there are many features and updates that you’d like to see. I’ll keep fighting internally for this to happen, but until I hear otherwise, there will not be a console patch for either Xbox or PS3.
He continued to say that he had no word on whether updates for the PC version had been sent to the great Filefront account in the sky, but he assumed that they would still be bursting out of Sega’s chest and into our computers. What he didn’t say was what the actual reason for this sudden cancellation was. It’s puzzling since the latest map packs were released barely a week ago. We at Ripten can only speculate that it had something to do with a massive Neo-Conservative/Lizard Person conspiracy that may threaten our very existence.
What we do know is that, from the beginning, the console versions of the game seemed to get the short end of the stick- while the PC version has seen five patches and updates that actually helped to improve the game, the console versions only saw one. While I hate to see a good game with a fairly passionate, albeit relatively small, community get shafted, I can’t help but drum my fingers together and say ‘excellent’ over my preferred gaming platform actually getting more support than the consoles for once. These victories are few and far between. Can we start talking about how the console market is dieing yet?
Oh we already are? Awesome.
